Merida is like any busy city; crowded, stinky, and dirty. Yet, unlike big cities the locals have great personalities and are eager to make conversation with you; and I am not referring to just street vendors or tourist agents. Merida has a strong cultural presence so it is a great trip to just see how people live and get along. The trips through the mercados were enlightening and the daily dances and fairs were highly enjoyable! |

If you are not short and dark skinned you are a walking dollar bill. We were harrassed constantly by people trying to sell us something. The city's sidewalks are very small and it was very unpleasant to walk around the city with all the exhaust fumes from the many cars. Although I saw a city bus I never saw a bus stop so we walked everywhere. By 2 in the afternoon it becomes unbearibly hot and humid. I've never been so sweaty in my life!! There is an outdoor shopping area downtown but they sell alot of junk. Save your money for gifts near the ruins. It is a good city since hostels are cheap and it's only a short bus ride to somewhere exciting. ei. ruins, cenotes, beaches, lagoons. It also has a good mayan museum, which can tell you more than one of guides at the ruins and is cheap! |

Merida is a very authentic Mexican city. Full of culture, historic sites and without big resorts. The best part of Merida is the number of activities that can easily be accessed from this central location. Whether it is a flamingo tour in Celestun, the waterfront walk way in Progresso, the ruins of Uxmal or the many cenotes in the area, Merida provides a great location to experience Mexico. |

The town didn't impress me much, but there were places to visit nearby, such as Progreso beach, and some amazing cenotes. |

There is nothing similar to a club or a discotech that I was able to find... Seems like if you want to go out and meet people or drink, it's gonna be a cafe. There is something to do almost every night and it is fun... you definately see the other tourists show up, but there are a lot of things for locals too. The food is excellent, but you should check prices... the same food and drink can be 2x the price as the restaurant next door with no difference in portion or size. Or, the price may seem reasonable and then the portion is small, but this type of thing is rare and overall it's a clean Mexican city with great sights, cultural mix and food... |

Merida is a peaceful traditional city, safe and easy to move around. There are no spectacular sights, but its full of history for mexicans and many colonial buldings and plazas. The food is extraordinary, very elaborate and original. There are public cultural events every day of the week, but it's no place to party. |

Its a quiet relaxed city, not a party spot, but a good place to come and recharge or to use as a base to tour the neighbouring area. The city has plenty of character and people go out of their way to help the tourist. Accommadationa and food to suit backpackers and family holiday makers. |

The street culture is big and a lot of effort is spent to retain the culture through street performances and displays. Worth a revisit!! |

Merida is interesting because on the outside it doesn't look like much. Once you go past the aging facades, there are beautiful coutryards, busy cafes, and impressive colonial architecture. It would take a while to find all these treasures, and certainly can't be done be just walking around to sight see. It's fun to check out and convenient as base for visting other places, but I don't think I'd go back. |

Great city. very colonial with a lot of character. Food is really good and very cheap compared to other places in the Yucatan. Makes a good base to get out and see sites such as ruins and cenotes. the cenotes are AMAZING. |

Merida is a lovely city, people are really friendly and "open" to tourists and there are lots of places to see both in the city and nearby. Don't miss the cenotes. |

The City really puts itself out to please the tourists; there is something going on every night. Too bad other places don?t do the same. It's loaded with history and culture and Colonialism. People are very friendly (mostly). |
