France’s second largest city, Marseille is home to over 826,000 people. Situated in the south of France on the Mediterranean, the city has a very pleasant climate with warm summers and mild winters making it a popular spot with sun-seekers from around the world. A port city, Marseille is divided into a large number of different ‘quartiers’. Food is a big thing here, with seafood being especially plentiful. You’ll find a large number of restaurants dotted around, offering everything from the best in contemporary cooking to top local favourites. A large number of these restaurants can be found around the harbour and marine area. It’s here that you’ll also come across the impressive forts of Saint Nicolas and Saint Jean. Some of the other main attractions in Marseille include the Musée d’Historie, the Musée da la Mode and the Abbey of Saint-Victor. Shopping is a popular activity in the city, with most of the main spending action centred on the area around Rue St. Ferreol.

mbartley2487 says: “ Didnt really like Marseille itself, it reminded me of Morocco and I didnt fdeel entirely safe the whole time I was there. Cassis only a 25 minute bus ride away has to be the highlight of the trip!!!

catiepants says: “ Marseille was pretty seedy, but there was a kind of raw beauty about the industrial fishing boats and working class atmosphere.
