Ken is a real gem. He will meet you in the square to show you to the hotel and is a great source of information on Marrakech.

Great hostel right in the middle of the Medina. Very quiet. Ask to be picked up at the Cafe France or you won't find it!

Perfect for a lone traveller, because the owner is friendly and helpful. He will meet you in the main square if you need help in finding your way. I would definitely stay there again.

I recommend setting a couple days apart to venture out of the city limits to experience the natural beauty of Morocco. Talk to Ken and he will hook you up with a great travel plan! Breakfast is great too. Dar Mauresque was definitely our home away from home.close

Its about 5 minutes walk to the big square (through the small streets then a labyrinth like passage). It was generally safe I would advise pairing up with others if you plan to walk the dimly lit labyrinth late at night. If you are far from the big square and especially late at night, you will have many offers for people trying to be your guide - most are fairly friendly but it gets annoying when people wont leave you alone and always want money from you (but you may need it if you're lost!) Not much to do at the riad itself. Its a small place so you may meet some people one night and none on the others. I would recommend only spending max 2 days in Marrakesh as there is not that much to do or see there. If you have more time, check out Marrakesh then go on multiday day trip out to the desert.close

The Mauresque is definitely more a Riad/Hostel than a Riad/Hotel - no fancy, traditional Moroccan decoration and only one bathroom for 8 people. Although the owner is extremely friendly and helpful, for the same price (or less) you can find luxurious Riads in Marrakech's Medina with ensuite rooms.

This was my first trip to Marrakech, and my first to a Riad! After reading many reviews on the site I decided to go with Dar Mauresque, and am really glad I did! On arrival, Ken (your host) will gladly meet you at the Cafe' de France. Once at the Riad, will make you feel at home. The location of this Riad is perfect, about five minutes from the main square. The Riad is clean, beds are great, and security is good! Ken is a great host, who will really go out of his way to make your stay enjoyable. On my trip to Essasorio he went and purchased the tickets for me and then escorted me to the right bus in the morning! Not knowing the area or culture, Ken makes it all the more easier to adapt, giving you tips on where to go and what to avoid and how much to pay taxi drivers! Ken also provides his own tours which is handy, and the price is also reasonable, but you can't buy the personal touch, and that's what Ken provides, oh yea, he also speaks many languages! As I was by myself, he also invited me to his birthday party, which was really nice of him - and got to know some of his friends! All in all, I challenge anybody not to enjoy their stay at Dar Mauresque! Enjoy..Nitesh from England!close

We had a great time and will definately come back one day.. thanks Ken ps. ask for an airport pickup as your first trip into the central medina can be bewildering. The hostel is only a 5 min walk to the main 'jemaa El Fna' square, from the north east corner, it is just off derb djedid which is the 5th road on the right as you walk on rue dabachi from the square (exit near chez chegrouni and cafe de france). If you need a map of the city buy an "insight - flexi map", as the lonely planet map isn't the bestclose

I had 5 memorable nights there. For the first time, I would not hesitate at all to give a hostel a 10/10 and recommend this place to everybody, especially those who only speak very limited French. The traditionally decorated riad is located right in the heart of the Medina, where all the historical sites people normally want to visit is within walking distance. It is only 3 minutes' walk from the Djamaa el-Fna square where you can sample some local cuisine (from both the restaurants, and the food stalls if you are a bit adventurous), watch the shows and visit the many shops in the adjacent Souk el Bahja Djamaa Fna. This central location certainly gives you more flexibility of planning your trip. And you can always walk back to the riad to have a little rest during the daytime wherever you are in the Medina. This could be quite important to keep you away from exhaustive full-day trips that make you miss some of the best shows in the night. The riad is also surprisingly quiet all the time, keeping the hustle bustle outside and give the guest a good time to rest. Besides the ideal location, what makes Dar Mauresque stand out as an ideal place is the people who work there. The owner, Ken, is very amiable and is ready to go out of his way to make sure you have a wonderful experience in Marrakech. However, be it from the guidebooks bought before departure or from the local bookshops, maps are less useful in Marrakech than in other places. The reason is two-folds. There are myriad of alley ways not on the map. On the other hand, there are very few street signs, even for the arterial roads. Therefore, getting lost is perhaps the only way to get to know Marrakech. This makes navigating in Marrakech a bit adventurous and exciting, but it could also be a bit difficult for the newcomers if you don't master adequate French. Ken is willing to take you to the places of interest on foot. Once he shows you the way, there should be no problem of finding your own way back, even without a map. This could save you quite a lot of time. Ken is also very experienced in planning trips ranging from daily excursions to the outskirt of Marrakech to multi-day trips to the Sahara. He could even take you on for the excursions by his own car. Ken is a very careful driver that is hard to find in Marrakech (you would soon realize what that means after arrival at the Marrakech airport). We had a very good trip to Imlil, a Berber village with a stunning setting. Indeed, I am very grateful to what he has done! The maid is also very friendly, although she speaks French rather than English. To summarize, great location, fantastic people. This is a pleasant place that everyone would like to enjoy. Hidden gem around Dar Mauresque On your way to the square, there is a Hammam called Mille & une Nuit (58 Place Djamaa el-Fna). It is opened in 1842 and is now more catered to the overseas tourists. I had a very good hammam there and would like to recommend that as well.close

The owner Ken was fantastic, very helpful. The accommodation was beautiful. The Dar Mauresque is fantastic for English speakers as not owned by a Moroccan.

He's also available to take you on one or multi-day trips to places outside of Marrakech, and is a very safe driver (which is not the case for everyone in Marrakech). The hostel is located down a few back alleys (safe and full of children playing), but so is every hostel in Marrakech, and after Ken shows you the way once you'll easily find it again. Really good coffee at breakfast, too!close

Exactly the type of riad I was looking for in Marrakech, no over the top furnishings, great location, charming owner and relaxed. Also the owner will go out of his way to help you in any way he can. Will definitely go back there. Thanks for a great stay

I would recommend getting Ken to pick you up from the airport but once you have walked to and from the riad once you will have no problem finding your way around. Ken also does tours, so you can always ask him. A friendly place to stay and he really made our holiday. Excelloent value for money. Don't hesitate, book now!close
