I think Lyon would be far better in the warmer months as the city comes alive with festivals and arty bits and pieces everywere. I felt a bit unsafe in Lyon, which I thought was strange after coming from Paris, but there were a lot of "undesirables" hanging around the main streets. Shopping is great, especially the christmas market when we were there was filled to the brim with excellent craft and foods. I found the nightlife quite bad on the sunday and monday we were here, although I've heard it's good on the usual thursday, friday and saturday.close

All of the restaurants we visited were good; there were sights to see and great shopping, and all of the downtown areas we wanted to visit were easily accessible just by walking. It was the perfect place for a weekend getaway for us, and if we had stayed longer, I'm sure we could have seen more things, too.close

El personal del hotel es muy amable y está muy bien situado en el centro. Las habitaciones son muy acogedores y están decoradas muy modernas.

1A good hostel with friendly staff and a superb location in the main city. Room and bathroom were fantastic and very clean and spacious with a TV. However the only thing that was slightly disappointing was the view from the bedroom window - overlooking another building. We would recommend this...

Hotel des Savoies 79%
Very clean but a little difficult to get to. If I were to do it again I would call ahead because the directions they give you are very vague. I would of rather couch surfed if I would of known about the conditions.

7it was four of us visiting Lyon, had a great time, very pleasant staff, giving us maps and everything, great toilet with a big bath tub (in which you could sleep) ;P , TV in the room... so I sincerely recommend it! Located just next to one of the stations within walking distance of everything...

La Gauffrerie80%
The perfect place to sit on a Saturday afternoon, as we did, and watch people go by (also have a laugh at the local hen and stag parties that seem to have a set stop in this square). This creperie and coffee shop is indeed in an old square of Vieux Lyon (the old town). The home made icecreams are wonderful and I also reccomend the mint flavoured green tea......

Suelta Verde Merciere80%
Located in a central area and on a street lined with restaurants, this is a good one for Mexican food, though a bit pricey. The quesadillas and fruit juices were good and the staff helpful and friendly.

Chez Martial60%
A typical "bouchon" (traditional restaurant), the staff was friendly and the food was ok, but the service was slow. We went there on our first night in the city, so we ordered a dish that included a bite of the most typical dishes of Lyon. Well, if sausages are not your favourite food, as they are not mine, I would reccommend ordering something more to your...

Fourviere Hill80%
The bascilica on top of this hill is a landmark of the city and a point of reference, as you can see it from a considerable distance, day and night. It is a beautiful sight from the bottom and you get an equally admirable sight from the top, over the whole city. I would recomend taking the funicular on your way up and making your way down through the gardens...

Vieux Lyon Tour80%
A good tour for an introduction to this city and its history. The highlight was the visit to the "traboules", covered passages used to keep the silk from the rain in the 16th century and later used by the Resistance fighters in WW2. You can get the ticket at the tourist office in Place Bellecour for 9 euro.

Musee Historique des Tissus60%
This museum is portrayed in some tourist guides as displaying the history of costume. I found that it is more about the history of textiles, rather than costume, so for me it was a bit disapointing. Probably very interesting for fashion fans... If you want to visit the adjoining Decorative Arts Museum as well, avoid going at lunch time, when it is closed.
