Linz, a new and fresh city, is the biggest port on the Danube and the gateway to Austria. Visitors are now beginning to flock to Linz thanks to its charm and illustrious history. The city has many beautiful attractions including the Dreifaltigkeitssäule (Trinity Column), the Rathaus (Town Hall) and the Landstrasse, the popular shopping district. The unique marketplace, called the Hauptplatz, is the original marketplace and is now one of Europe's biggest and most beautiful squares. Linz has plenty of cafés serving traditional dishes for all to enjoy including the Linzer torte, which looks like an open jam pie. The torte is filled mainly with raspberry jam or preserves. The city offers quite a tranquil nightlife with plenty of theatre shows and there are a number of vibrant pubs and nightclubs to enjoy.
