overall a great choice. very clean and charming, and good deal for the homecooked dinners. The front desk staff/owner were helpful. The other staff were generally frowny faces though. But other than that, no complaints.....also convenient and professional tours of the area. We wish we had...

This place is amazing, the most chilled vibe you can imagine. Plus they do some outstanding work with local kids which is brilliant. In 3 months of travelling this is the best all round place we've stayed. And the barman mixes the best caipirinhas...

We also liked the in-house dinner and packed lunch options - very affordable (R$10 a meal), but bring money for eating out, too! Lencois has, by far, the best array of eateries that we have been able to find in Bahia . . . including a place that serves good Thai food and an excellent New Mexican-Mexican place right on the river(the chef hand carries the red chilies down from Santa Fe, NM, each year! We couldn't believe our luck!). Breakfast at the Pousada was just so-so, though - it could use at least eggs or hot cereal to fill hikers and trekkers up. Also, some of the guides booked through the Pousada for various tours are better than others. On one day, we had younger guides who took some risks that could have, at a minimum, made for an off day - including "surfing" on the roof and hood of our transport(a wicked Toyota 4x4) - and jumping off the front of the truck while we were moving at fairly high speeds down a relatively steep dirt road grade. It's cool that they can do it, but I don't really want to miss a day hiking (or worse) because of my guides' "Jackass 3" try-out attempts (they didn't impress). As it was, our particular tour was rained out, but we certainly would have been further along with our hike if the guides and transport team had it a little more together. After setting off from the Pousada, we waited in the truck for close to an hour for one driver / guide (some confusion about who was to do what) to try to find her sunglasses; we stopped by two different houses (no glasses). Worse, none of the four guides were able to lead us to the spot that they had hoped to take us (a special tour, based on the previous nights' rain) once we finally parked the truck. To their credit, the guides decided not to lead us to the spot once they had found their way to it, based on their concern for our safety and the sudden turn in weather. They also took us to an excellent alternative site for a bit of splashing around and light hiking. I mention this not to discredit the Pousada - which is superior, but in hopes that the Pousada can use its relationship with it guides to improve the touring experience for all visitors. Thanks, guys! And keep it inside the truck!close

We enjoyed our stay here and went on some really good tours. The hostel is about a five minute walk from the centre of town and set out nicely with al fresco common areas to relax and chat to other travellers. A good hearty breakfast is included.
