Great place to stay- quiet, great food available at decent prices for dinner, good value. Reception wasn't open early in the morning, though, and the staff seemed a little disorganized, but as nice as can be.

The restaurant has good food for dinner, although it is a bit pricey. Try the pizza next door at Mountain Hostel. If you are over 6 feet tall then you will have to duck to walk around inside. Very nice staff, very clean place. The floors are a bit creaky, and you notice when people come in late at night.close

We stayed on the mats in the loft. Cozy. Great staff--so helpful and accommodating! Bathrooms were nice! Best hostel location in Europe. :) --Just need some more affordable meal options in the restaurant for backpackers. We had to go next store to the mountain hostel for meals. But they...

we stayed in a 10bed mixed dorm which turned out to be the attic where you had to crouch down to walk around in it. but for around $15, it was worth staying there for just one night

The location of the hostel is picturesque and very calm among the mountains (although I hear the calm is gone in winter with all the skiers) and the staff are nice although it would be better if they spoke English or German.

If you love to party, meet people, and stay in a perpetually loud and crazy environment, then stay in Mountain Hostel. If you wish for a peaceful experience (that is more in harmony with the breathtaking surroundings and the silent beauty of the landscape), then choose to stay in Zum Berggeist. A warning though: this hostel is in the town of GIMMELWALD not Lauterbrunnen like there page says. Do not be confused, just take the bus from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelburg, then the gondola up to Gimmelwald and this place is right behind the little playground (across the street from Esther's guest house and shop). The staff here is excellent and SO helpful (don't be thrown by their reserved nature, just ask them anything and they will be more helpful then you can imagine). The 15 frank (10 euro) accommodations is a mattress on the attic floor. It is wonderful (the attic was empty the whole time I was there and I had the whole attic to myself) so many fluffy blankets and you are left completely alone (also no lockout). Stay up there if you can, this place is divine.close

No complaints (accept that food in Gimmelwald is scarce, Esther's shop has very few things you can buy to eat or there is 12 frank pizza from Mountain Hostel or pricey small meals at this place are about it for any food at all.) Highest recommendations for staying at this place.close

At first, the location was not easy to access, but once I got there, it was beautiful. I think staffs were kind and room was quite clean. The view from the hostel was fantastic. But it was very cold at night and there was no heater.(there was heater but it wasn't working)

The cigarette smoke was disgusting and I don't think it was a single guest that was smoking... it was the staff. Not to mention that the flies in the kitchen were gross. Other than that, the rooms were very clean and tidy, and if you want to stay in Gimmelwald, then this is fine. This was my favorite place throughout my travels in Europe. It helps that I was surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery I've seen. Truly an experience I'll remember forever. I would advise anyone traveling to Gimmelwald to stay here...it's great.

The Staff is very kind. The view is great, the rooms are cosy. The food is a little expensive, but...is cheaper than Mürren and the other small towns around.

Hostel is advertised as if it is in Lauterbrunnen but is actually in Gimmelwald which is another town a bus ride and cable car away. Staff were very friendly and helpful with all our needs and questions. Breakfast was overpriced for two slices of bread with jam and orange juice. Room is lovely...

The rooms were adorable and the views were incredible. Perfect for skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer. We loved Gimmelwald and Zum Berggeist made out experience complete. The two things I didn't like were the other people staying there used all the hot water, leaving none for us for the next 24 hours, and food was simply given to you at dinner, without asking about allergies or likes & dislikes. There also were no surprises of homemade sausages or breads = but the food was still great. Thank you so much for everything!close
