This is THE nicest place that I have ever stayed as a traveler. It is not a hostel it is a home. The couple who run it, go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and at home. I was treated like a Queen.

VERY GOOD place to stay, although it`s a bit far from the JR station. The owners, Jin and Jumi, are very hospitable and treat you like family. After a day out Jumi gives you a BIG hug and asks you about your adventures for that day. Excellent place. 5 stars. Recommended.

This was the best hostel I have ever stayed at (and I've stayed at a bunch!). Jumi and Jin (the owners) are amazing hosts. The best bargain in Kyoto, and a MUST for anyone coming through the city!!

Sandal Wood was amazing. I live in Japan and even still have very rarely encountered the kindness that Jumi and the others who live and work in the house displayed. Plus they're musicians so if you are one yourself it makes forming a connection even easier to do. I'll definitely be staying... more Sandal Wood was amazing. I had a great time staying at this hostel - the staff was fantastic and the everything was kept nice and clean. When I stayed here the mix of travelers were great and we all shared many laughs. This was one of the better hostel experiences I've had in general!

The best hostel we stayed in during our trip in Japan. Super relaxed hosts who have great tips and make you feel right at home. The best were the jamsessions in the commonroom.. Good location, close to the busstop with lots of shops in the area.

I had a great time at Sandal Wood. It's a small Hostel, so together with Jumi and Jin (staff) it's just like one big family and great to meet people. They're so helpful, just tell them where you want to go and they show you how to get there. It's not that centrally located but still fine. There's... more I had a great time at Sandal Wood. From the second I walked in I felt at home. Both Jumi and Jean are wonderful and are very knowledgeable about Kyoto. I will definitely stay here again the first chance I get.

Absolutely the best hostel in Kyoto! This is the real deal here; I couldn't have asked to find a friendlier staff who made me feel at home. If you're looking for cozy and warm place to stay, Sandal Wood is it. Oh, and the manager is a cutie. =)

One of the best hostels I have ever stayed in! It's a small and cosy place run by the absolute nicest (and really cool) people. Great subway and bus links on the adjoining street to anywhere you want to go in Kyoto. Highly recommended to anyone ^_^
