We spent our first 2 nights in Japan in this place and were not disappointed. The staff were very helpful, polite and professional. The room was just how you imagine a Ryokan should be, clean spacious and comfortable. The hot spring communal baths were our favourite of the trip and the location, in the middle of Higashiyama, is walking distance to Gion, downtown and the nightlife whilst still being in the leafy hills on the edge of town and surrounded by lovely temples and shrines. Perfect for a first visit to Kyoto. A fabulous introduction to Japan and a true delight.close

This Ryokan would normally be out of my price range, but I was willing to splash out for the authentic Ryokan experience, and I was not disappointed. The place has great character and is in an awesome location- near Nanzen-ji temple, so the neighbourhood is filled with shrines, gardens and...

It's a really beautiful ryokan located in a very special area, close to temples, gardens and good 'tofu' restaurant.

We only spent one night here but wish we had more time. Though a little difficult to reach, bus no.5 (50 minutes from Kyoto station) and a bit of walking (5 mins) it's very nicely located, at the entrance to nanzen-ji temple in Northern Higashiyama area. There is lots to see nearby and it's not too far from Gion and other sites. The room itself was in a very traditional Japanese style, as you would expect from a Ryokan. Western style toilet and basic bathroom. When we checked in we were shown to our room, given tea and towels to refresh ourselves and then shown our yukatas! They also had a public bath (6:30am - 11pm) but we didn't have time to try it. When we got back later at night, our futons had magically set themselves up in the room and it was very comfortable to sleep in. Could not fault the place at all. Again, we didn't have much time so didn't try any of the food but it looked top quality.close
