Thanks Gion Shinmonso, for a wonderful stay at our first "ryokan." We were four men and four women sharing two 4-bed rooms, ages ranging from 19 to 58.

Excellent location, but we were a bit disappointed for the price (no private bathroom, no breakfast for 60 euros per person). We were happy to have the opportunity to meet a maiko during a dinner at the rooftop restaurant.

In a great area, the staff are quite friendly and helpful. Our rooms were great, very traditional Japanese! And we had our own private bathroom!

Good overall but I have one big complaint. When I asked for directions to a restaurant where we had reservation, we were sent on quite the wild goose chase by the staff at the desk. We ended up going on a 30 minute taxi ride to finally end up at the restaurant that was only about a 5 minute...

Great location in the heart of Gion, the geisha quarter - spotted 2 Maiko walking down the street our first day there! Good public bath and clean tatami rooms. Good value for money.

Really nice relaxing place. Felt like a hotel more then a hostel but still great. Their bathhouse was very relaxing!

Great location, staff very friendly (not much English, but very happy to use phrase books to communicate). Traditional rooms and public bath are great introduction to Japanese accommodations - just read up on room and bath etiquette!

Futons are very firm to sleep on and the pillows are very different so if you are used to a western soft mattress and pillow be advised. A great culture experience.
