As passionate travelers, it is our dream to own a little sanctuary at home where we can travel vicariously through hosting fellow travelers and sharing travel tales. 'Singgahsana' is the fulfillment of this dream. Having stayed in every sort of accommodation imaginable worldwide from the immaculate to the appalling, Singgahsana is our version of the ideal home away from home. As avid art appreciators and owners of an art gallery, we attempt to infuse Singgahsana with our touch of Sarawak Style. Our guests will know that they are in exotic Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo when they awake each morning to a room filled with unique local decor. Artefacts collected from the 30 or more ethnic tribes of Sarawak adorn the common area. Even the ubiquitous lamps of your room have been cleverly made out of utilitarian baskets and the floor covered with rattan and bark mats. Travel photographs decorate each wall bringing sweet memories of the many destinations we have travel to. Regular travels abroad have made us appreciate our home even more. Sarawak's great diversity both in its peoples and its nature makes it totally unique. But above all these, our Bornean home is exceptionally special because of its 'sickeningly' warm hospitality as aptly put by a friend and regular visitor to Sarawak. We hope to have the opportunity to make your stay in Kuching a good one. Check our other news at www.villagehouse.com.my

Lodge situe a une intersection. Les chambres donnant sur le rue sont assez bruillantes.

I like the toilet and shower because they had fans on the ceiling to ensure dry floor all the time. By Malaysian standard, the breakfast was "ok" (because no local food in a Malaysian hostel as option) but my british friend said it was great. The breakfast consisted of 2 slices of thick white bread, coffee/tea, jam, butter and fruits. The location is 2 minutes to the waterfront... very good location. The thing that I do not like about the hostel is they do not have enough shoe racks or storage. They expect people to take off their shoes in the premises but the shoes were left near the staircases and it smelled awful (imagine more than 20 pairs of smelly shoes and slipper greeting near the main entrance/reception)... what a first impression!close

The reception staff were pleasant but not very helpful. Despite a notice on the bar saying otherwise we were told we could not have breakfast 15 mins early. After staying three nights in an 80RM room and spending money in the bar etc.. we were charged 2Rm to use a towel - didn't make us feel like...

great stay here right in the centre of town with great room decorations, books to borrow, cheap interent and a rooftop bar with cheap beer (5RM). staff are friendly and will show you a good time. they provide lots of information on the bilboards about tours, etc. would highly recommend.

Location of this hostel is great. We found it to be extremely clean with comfy beds. We were well impressed & have to say that this is one of the nicest places that we have stayed on our RTW trip. Great bar on the top floor too but the reception staff could be a little more helpful.

This lodge promotes itself as a friendly hostel that understands the needs of travellers, yet increases its rates substantially when there is a major attraction nearby (the Music Festival). That is not traveller friendly to me!!
