Killarney, with the one exception of Kilkenny, where I am from is my favourite part of Ireland. Its a great little town, that practically revolves around tourism. this is the sort of Ireland that exists in peoples minds, in their imagination .... the puds down here are great, very stereotypically Irish. Rent a care and take a spin around the ring of Kerry, i can promise you the best views you are ever likely to see. Relax and unwind in the gardens of Muckross or go take a dip in the lakes of Killarney. Get in a round of golf ... theres so so much to do here. or drink yourself to a stupor in one of the many pubs here. Killarney is a great holiday destination, better than Dublin, a better pace of life down here. If your lucky to be down here for the week of the rally during the summer even better!!! |

The weather was fantastic and the town was very busy. There was a great buzz about the place |

Not really much to do there to be honest, other than lodge while doing the various tours of Kerry (the Ring - highly overrated and not a patch on the Beara Peninsula in my view). The lakes are beautiful if the weather is good enough to really view them. The scenery around Killarney is stunning. The town has a vibrant pub and club scene and some good restaurants, but they are very pricey... |

Americans love the place, i think its big crap. Ring of Kerry tour is great but often a rip off as they stop every 10 mins to sell stuff |

cycling, climbing, trekking (kerry way)- that is Killarney and despite all prejudice- the weather was great, no rain, but a sunburn |

I didn't go out and explore the town so to say. I mostly enjoyed the nature and wilderness surrounding it. That was what made the place special. |

The Ring of Kerry, the Killarney National Park...Killarney has many things to offer...anyway, lots of people and especially many tourists seems to know it...what makes the prices in the local shops a little bit higher than usual..but a lovely place to go and an excellent town to celebrate New Year's Eve! |

Killarney is a pretty village and close to the national park which is great to wander round. There were plenty of day trips to other places and the place is set up for tourists. |

a real must! but take a car without mirrors or a better insurance, parts of it are real hard work in driving |

Although touristy (and that's what it's known and good for), Killarney is a great central location for traveling around the southwest of Ireland. You can get to Dingle, the Cliffs of Moher, the Gap of Dunloe, Cork, and many other locations very easily by car or bus. |

Very expensive, a local told me inflation was worse than anywhere else. Don't buy your tourist stuff there! |

Killarney national park is beautiful even in the winter. Bring a rain jacket and you'll be fine |

This town is small, but lots of fun and within walking distance of the breathtakingly beautiful Lakes of Killarney and Ross Castle. Of all the towns in Ireland that I visited, this one has the most shops oriented toward tourists, and the prices are reasonable. |

Too commercial, too many Americans, too expensive, too noisy, great Park, though |

Killarney is all about getting the tour out of town to see the countryside! SO INCREDIBLE! The actual town itself is very pretty too! |

Killarney makes a nice hub for day trips to dingle peninsula and the ring of kerry. It's not a bad downtown shopping district, but the problem was that by the time we'd get back to town after our day trips, all of the shops would be closed by 5:00. So, no enjoyment of the shops could be done. |

Kilarney was a great spot to relax and enjoy the Irish pub atmosphere, as well as be able to get out in nature. The lakes and hikes are beautiful. |

loved it. |

Killarney national forest was fantastic. I reccommend renting a bike and riding down the Kenmare road into the national forest. Hike up to Torc Waterfall and onto some more advanced hiking if you're into that sort of thing.
Watch out for the horse buggy's though!
Good stop over for a Ring of Kerry / Dingle excrusion. |

Weather, nature, town everything I have just wanted together in one place, I loved it. People are friendly, helpful and 100 per cent safe because I travelled by myself. |

everything related to food or shopping was fairly pricey. |

the city of killarney is not really intersting but the hostel is just near the national parc of killarney, which is very beautiful. Yesterday a made the tour around the three lacs, by bike, 11 euros a day if you are in the hostel instead of 15.
It was a bit hard sometimes, but the view is amazing, the gap of dunloe is wicked. |

Not exactly the greatest place in Ireland, very touristy and pretty much why the town thrives. Beautiful landscape, great park, good food and pubs but quite pricey and lots of tourist shops make up Killarney. Besides eating and relaxing there isn't really much to do there. |

The city is nice. The tourist office is helpful. The National Park is really fantastic, I highly recommend either walking or biking it. If you are on foot, I recommend getting a taxi out to Muckross House and Gardens - it is worth it. |

I loved killarney! i really feel like I get to see some of the \'real\' ireland, not just the tourist parts. Definitely visit Killarney! |

Killarney is awesome, it\'s quaint and full of life, and it\'s in one of the most beautiful places in Ireland that I\'ve seen so far. Take a tour of the Ring of Kerry, you won\'t be disappointed! |

Really fun little place, good for live Irish music and having a drink & a laugh. Also great for sighseeing - Lakes of Killarney. |

Killarney itself is a tourist trap,I don\'t want to think how crowdy would be during summer months. I visited about middle March, and still had a soooo comercialised feeling! But great location and surroundings really worth an effort to deal with that! If you love nature and historic buildings, you are going to love Killarney National Park! |

Killarney, located in county Kerry, is a relatively small town located in the West of Ireland. I wouldn't suggest coming here for the shopping or even the pub life, as the small town relatively offers very few of these. However, Killarney is located in a very convenient location for day trips to the many neighbouring natural locations. You can take a bus tour to The Dingle Peninsula, or the Ring of Kerry. They are both stretches of land around the coast (Dingle is more north) and are quite nice to see but it is relatively passive travelling - sitting in a coach for the day and admiring the view. I would definitely recommend going on one of them if you have the extra time. The more active trips involve a tour advertised as an "adventure tour" around the Gap of Dunloe. The Gap is a valley between two mountains and is about a 3 hour hike to get through - don't be disheartended by the length, the route is quite flat and overall not very exhausting. The bus will drop you off at the start of the gap, and then after the hike through a small 12-person speed boat will pick you up at the smallest of the lakes on the other side. The boat ride is an hour long, and takes you through all three of the lakes. Be warned though - the last lake is quite large and during bad weather can be quite choppy and people sitting in the front will get wet. The boat drops you off at Ross Castle in the National Park, where you are shuttled back to town. If you're not keen on the organized tours you can hire a bike for a day (for about €15) and take it to the Gap (though it is quite tiring), or simply take it to the nearby national park. The Park is beautiful and large, and has many small trails you can take to get away from it all. The three lakes are included in the park, and you can get many spectacular views of them from all around. There are two main sections of the park: the closest part with Ross Castle, and the part with the Muckross house which is slightly further out of town but can still be reached by bike (you will have to take the main road out of town though). Don't miss the Torc Waterfall, which is along the circular hiking path. I would also suggest this path if you wanted to 'get away from it all', but some uphill sections of it can be quite exhausting. All in all, Killarney is a lovely place if you're in the mood for some hiking/biking or just plain sitting-in-a-bus sight seeing. There are also horseback tours you can take for €30 but i didn't have the time to go on them and can't advise. |

Killarney is VERY touristey--every other shop is a souvenir shop and we heard that the population doubles in the summer months because of tourists. Not much to do in Killarney itself--unless you are really into shopping for shamrock boxers--but it is the main pick up for Ring of Kerry Tours. Food was a little expensive and there wasn\'t much fast food, only a Burger King. |

Only two things you need here are comfortable shoes and a bicycle. There are lots of paths inside the Killarney National Park, so you can walk or ride many kilometers and enjoy the scenery. One of the entrances to National Park is inside Killarney. Some of the highlights: visit Ross Castle on Ross Island and take a tour of the island itself, from Ross Castle location you can take a boat and do a trip through all the lakes. Boat will leave you at the end of the Upper Lake and then you can take a trip through Gap of Dunloe. The other interesting trip is visiting Muckross Estate and taking a tour all around Muckross (Middle) Lake. You will pass by Torc Waterfall and Meeting of the Waters, the place where all three lakes come together. |
