Kilkenny is a lovely small city with plenty to do. My highlights were visiting the castle and shopping during the day; and nice meals and nightlife later on! Lots of nice restaurants and small cafes and a pub on every corner! |

Kilkenny is great, I go here every once in a while for a weekend break. If you are looking for a night out Langtons is a great pub and restaurant. Kilkenny is a lovely town and lots to do around it |

Once you get past the fact that Kilkenny is a haven for hen and stag parties, it really is a grear city. There is the old castle and it really has a very medieval feel to it. There are endless pubs, not many great places to eat but it is very charming. |

Hey all. just to warn you I am from Kilkenny, so some may view my comments as biased - others as well informed. Firstly, to start with the aesthetics of the city. (By name only, it's very very small) Rambling around the srteets of this beautiful medieval city is a pleasure in itself... Beautiful buildings like St Canices Cathedral, Kytelers and especially the castle can be marvelled at. It's a busy city with plenty to do in the surrounding areas. renting a car would be best as you can then also explore the wonderful villages of Inostigue, Graiguenamanagh, and Castlecomer. Go to Dunmore to Visit the caves, or Thomastown to Jerpoint Abbey.
Kilkenny is big on festivals, some great ones too. The cat laughs comedy festival is my favourite, attracting the world's best comedians for the June bank holiday weekend. There is also the arts festival and the smithwicks source festival attracting some of the music world's biggest stars. Horse racing in Gowran ... I could go on forever....
There is a lively social scene at the weekends here too and pretty much everybody heads for Langtons. Get there early to avoid the queue. The city itself is very manageable by foot and ideal for a day trip down on the train if you are staying in Dublin. What are you waiting for? Come on down annd see the jewel of the sunny south east. I will even let you buy me a pint. |

Had a fantastic stay in Kilkenny! Nice shopping, sightseeing's great fun, sports, chill-out, eating out and just enjoying the buzzing atmosphere - and SUNNY AND HOT weather did the rest to make these three of the most enjoyable days on my trip! |

Kilkenny is a great place to visit if you're only there to drink all day in the pub...however, if you're looking to do some sightseeing or spend ur time outside of the pub there isn't a whole lot to keep you entertained...and like everywhere in Ireland, everything is pretty pricey! |

Attractive town with a LOT of tourists, nothing much to do though except eat (expensive) and drink. |

Kilkenny has to be one of the cheapest cities in Ireland with something for everyone, its a compact city with great shopping bargains, good food at reasonable prices, lots of wonderful places to visit including kilkenny castle in the heart of the city and a roaring nightlife, definitely worth a visit. |

Disgusting. Unfriendly and unhelpful staff, no security of any kind, located nowhere near ANYTHING, no phones, unclean rooms... pretty much the worst hostel in Ireland. |

Kilkenny was a really cute town. Much smaller than Dublin, but a ton of character. Had some really good resturants and cafes. Had lots of really good pubs, not nearly as crowded as Dublin! |

Would have been even better had it not been Good Friday and everything had been shut. |

Loads of lovely little places to eat (though there are a few pricey places in there too!) Beautiful scenery, Irish cultural things and is close to many great little places if you have a hire car it's easy (definitely think hire cars in Ireland are the cheapest option!) |

If you are arriving in Kilkenny from the south east (like Rosslare), take the Nore valley route from New Ross via Thomastown and Bennettsbridge - the scenery is lovely with a number of ruined mediaeval castles to admire on the way. Kilkenny city is small but well preserved with a stronger sense of the mediaeval than you get elsewhere in Ireland. Some lovely churches and abbeys and the famous Castle and grounds, which are well worth a vist. The Kilkenny design center in the Design Yard is well worth a visit and it's hard to come out without having bought something. The city center is compact and the shopping isn't bad for a city of its size. The restaurants were good too. |
