Kilkenny city is small but well preserved with a stronger sense of the mediaeval than you get elsewhere in Ireland. Some lovely churches and abbeys and the famous Castle and grounds, which are well worth a vist. The Kilkenny design center in the Design Yard is well worth a visit and it's hard to come out without having bought something. The city center is compact and the shopping isn't bad for a city of its size. The restaurants were good too.close

(By name only, it's very very small) Rambling around the srteets of this beautiful medieval city is a pleasure in itself... Beautiful buildings like St Canices Cathedral, Kytelers and especially the castle can be marvelled at. It's a busy city with plenty to do in the surrounding areas. renting a car would be best as you can then also explore the wonderful villages of Inostigue, Graiguenamanagh, and Castlecomer. Go to Dunmore to Visit the caves, or Thomastown to Jerpoint Abbey. Kilkenny is big on festivals, some great ones too. The cat laughs comedy festival is my favourite, attracting the world's best comedians for the June bank holiday weekend. There is also the arts festival and the smithwicks source festival attracting some of the music world's biggest stars. Horse racing in Gowran ... I could go on forever.... There is a lively social scene at the weekends here too and pretty much everybody heads for Langtons. Get there early to avoid the queue. The city itself is very manageable by foot and ideal for a day trip down on the train if you are staying in Dublin. What are you waiting for? Come on down annd see the jewel of the sunny south east. I will even let you buy me a pint.close

  2. Lawcus Farm Guesthouse 95%

This place is what you make of it. Its not every day you get to stay on an Irish farm and the rooms were very well kept. Its about a 10 minute drive from Kilkenny but we were sure to be back by dark so we didn't get lost.

Elizabeth was wonderful and extremely helpful in suggesting sites to see in the area. We loved her! Her breakfast was delicious and extremely filling. She even packed us some scones to take on the road when we left.

Tres bon bed and breakfast avec un acceuil tres chaleureux d'Elizabeth. Certes un peu loin de Killkenny mais il reste beaucoup de choses à voir aux alentours de Thomastown.

Top Rated Kilkenny Restaurants

  1. Riverside Restaurant100%

This is located in the River Court Hotel bang in the centre of Kilkenny at the bridge. It is more expensive than other places in the city but well worth splashing out on. The food here was absolutely dedlicious and definitely in my top 5 all time favourite meals. The room is contemporary style with a piano player creating a warm ambience. Great for a...

  2. Swans Chinese Restaurant100%

    • What?

        Chinese Cuisine
    • Where?

Located in the center of Kilkenny, close to Kilkenny Castle
    • Anything Else?

A pleasant venue, the interior is bright and relaxing with its with red alcoves and dark brown leather chairs. Their food is well prepared and the traditional dishes are all available here from spring rolls to chicken chow mein.

In my opinion this is the best Chinese retaurant in Kk. The take away is great quality too...only complaint is that the portions are massive...so make sure you're hungry!

  3. Chez Pierre100%

Undoubtedly this has to be one of the best restaurants in Kilkenny. With it's rustic ambiance and authentic french charm, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates the art of good food and dining. I ordered the goose liver pate, the john dory with petite pois and the plate du fromage. My husband ordered the quail, the john dory and the home...

This is a small cafe located near the castle. The place is very small and pokey, but the food was good, with nice hot chocolate and scones.

  5. Langtons Bar and Restaurant80%

Langton's is basically divided into the bar, a restaurant and hotel. We dined in the restaurant, which has their own alacarte menu along with the bar food menu, meaning there is great choice for everyone. There is a set menu available, 2 or 3 courses which is great value and delicious food. The room is cosy and decorative and feels like a treat, though...

Top Rated Kilkenny Attractions

  1. Kilkenny Castle60%

Kilkenny Castle is pretty much the main attraction in the town so you cannot leave without seeing it. The old Castle kitchen operates as a tea room during the summer so if you are there at that time of year, there's no better way to enjoy afternoon tea & scones!!

Top Rated Kilkenny Bars

  1. Matt the Millers100%

Matt the Millers is located in the heart of Kilkenny city on John Street at the Bridge. We were there for the Ireland rugby game so there was great craic in the place. They have a late bar and music playing most nights.
