Not the place you go to to party, but if you want a relaxing time to recharge the batteries then you cant go past this place. Excellent friendly and accomodating staff made it a restful stay.

Great Little Hostel, we only stayed there for one night, but this place was so nice that we could easily have stayed a lot longer! staff were great and the facilities were next to none.

The security is not good,With two doors permenantly open.staff are great,the above was my only niggle,welcoming and warm when you get there and they do everything they can do to make your stay a great one.I do wonder however if it was full how I would of been able to off got onto the top bunk... more The security is not good,With two doors permenantly open.staff are great,the above was my only niggle,welcoming and warm when you get there and they do everything they can do to make your stay a great one.I do wonder however if it was full how I would of been able to off got onto the top bunk pole vault perhaps?no ladders for the bunks but it didnt bother me as it was only 2 of us in a 6 bed but I would recommend to the owner to invest in stairs/ladders!close

i booked this hostel having read some good reviews and was not disappointed. there were only 3 or 4 of us in the whole hostel when I was there so we were given a dorm each to ourselves which was a nice touch. Heidi was very friendly and helpful too.

Really enjoyed our time at the Albatross, Clean and tidy, only slight winge would be at times the kitchen got over crowded and not enough points for a lot of people to cook at once.

Pleasant, homely hostel. Extremely friendly, helpful staff. Close to beach and about a 10 minute walk to the main street. Comfy rooms but squeaky bunks. FABULOUS bathrooms! Clean, newish and great water pressure! I had the best showers of my trip here! Average kitchen - a good size but dark...

A bit of a walk from most of the restaurants and stores in the center of town, but near the ocean and the peninsula walk. This was a clean hostel, with some character and a great, helpful and friendly staff. We would certainly stay here again and recommend it to others.

Clean unusual rooms with a fantastic friendly common area. The staff were really lovely here too. I would deffinitely recomend this place.

I stayed at Albatross Backpackers for 2 nights and had no complaints. The place was clean with a nice lounge and a really cute cat that lounged around. The staff were helpful and I would definately recommend a stay at Albatross.

Nice quiet small hostel. Extremely cold at night - I was glad I had a 4 season sleeping bag with me otherwise I might have frozen to death!

Actually very nice little hostel, but you could not really lock the door and don't forget your sleeping bag.But the kitchen was very clean and it was quite cosy.A good place to stay.

the rooms were really nice but the beds i had were really not that good it was hard to sleep in them, they were two foam mattresses on top of one and other so. but other than that the place is quite nice.

we had to pay for 2 days for a third person, even if she never checked in AND we wrote a mail of her not being able to come (5 days before)... AND the necklace etc. of my sister got stolen out of the bedroom...

some of the rooms were a bit small & a little more expensive compared to the other hostels in the centre of Kaikoura. However, it's a charming & a very quiet place to stay & I would recommend it to anyone.

The reviews on this were overated, only one bathroom near our room which did not have a functioning hot tap. TV area lounge was only good point. Good location. Did not see the themed/character rooms.

This hostel was clean and certainly had an inviting feel within the lounge an ktichen area's. However we felt that this hostel lacked character, this may have been due to location within the town but this may suite some. the amenities as in bathrooms could be improved to a higher standard.

I would just like to say what a lovely stay I had at Albatross, it is such a lovely, warm, homely place...makes a pleasent change from the huge city centre hostels I've been accustomed to! Thankyou for making my stay so nice!
