It's quite a small town, but it's a college town. So plenty of nightlife to enjoy. Trendy bars, Irish bars, karaoke bars ... all sorts really. Nice main shopping street too, although I'm not sure how good the shops are. Plenty of lakes in the area too, and so lots to do outdoors. I'd definiately recommend a quick trip up if you fly into Tampere, it's only 90...
