We were really glad to have been to Jaipur, and seen the sights there, as we thought the place was amazing. However, we also found the absolute level of squalor and filth to be far beyond what we had imagined. I have never seen so many truly horrific things in such a short space of time, and to walk out the first time, we felt shell shocked. We would not even consider ourselves to be 'virgin' travellers (maybe to India, but we have seen many other palces)... Do come here, do see it, but be prepared!! No one ever mentions how repugnant much of India is, and your guide book is unlkely to tell you about seeing dead dogs in open sewers, or rats eating human faeces off the train lines at the station, os seeing a man taking a dump by the side of the road....

quite amazing, a bit mind blowing, too much for all the senses to take in at once. The poverty is quite shocking but the people have a great spirit about them, very generous in nature and very welcoming. Some of the street vendors were a bit overwelming and quite hard work when you are not use to it. The most beautiful part was the colours and buildings in the pink city.
