Staff friendly. Room had character but it, along with the bathroom, was quite dirty. Bathroom had a water heater - after the 20 minute warm-up time, the water was hot but only a trickle. TV unreliable. Did not sample the food because of the dirt in the room and the grubby state of the menu.close

The Shahar Palace is the jewel of Jaipur. The tranquility and friendlynes is a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the main centre. You are away from the city centre but it is only a short rickshaw ride and the feeling you get when you arrive there after a hectic day is well worth it.

It's run by a retired tank col. and his wife, who are really lovely - they will do what they can to look after you. The food the prepare is very good too, as well as some of the best tea! The gardens are really gorgeous as well - lots of chickens, a duck, some cute dogs, an occassional peacock... The location is excellent as well - it is a little out of town (not far at all, but enough for some breathing space), but you will be very thankful of that - we were - but still only less that 50 rupees to just about anywhere you will want to get to. Also, the col. will be able to book taxis or autos for you. We would recommend this place to anyone visiting Jaipur - it was almost worth going there just for the hostel, let alone the sights of the city. Great place, great owners!! Thank you!close

Every room has a small balcony in front of it, where you can have breakfast, lunch or diner too. Great value!close
