I enjoyed Verona but it was really only a day trip.close

It's charming, well run, very clean, with a strong sense of culture and identity and of course it has the excellent restaurants one expects to find in Italy. An evening people - watching in a café on the Piazza Bra is entertainment in itself - especially if the Opera is on in the Roman Arena - a fabulous sight in itself (season runs July - early Sept). A visit to the Opera in Verona is not to be missed - they tend to do the 'classics', rarely straying into more experimental territory, one of their stock pieces, repeated every second year or so, being Aida. It's a very very long opera, be warned! If you go for the cheap seats you must remember to bring a cushion - 1800 year old stone can be very hard and cold... LOL! This being Verona, Romeo and Juliet get a look in - well Juliet in particular, the (alleged) balcony the little tramp hooked the poor git from being a favourite tourist spot (see pic). Have a look also at the Piazza delle Erbe - probably the prettiest in Verona, with its market and frescos, as well as the lovely Piazza dei Signori - very palatial. If you like the history of art, head for San Zeno Maggiore, one of the most significant example of Romanesque architecture with a triptych by Mantegna inside.close

We saw Verona at a quiet time mainly locals and we were able to walk everywhere its really nice. The food in Verona is much better than Rome or Venice and restaurants are very reasonably priced. shopping is also great it has all the designer shops but alo your every day normal shop. A really great city well worth a visit. But stay central thats what we did.close

We started our holidays here and from the hotel (which was not very expensive) to the restaurants and bars and cultural centre, we thought it was beautiful. It is worth getting a Verona ´card´that you can buy in any newspaper stand...i think it was 8 or 9 euros and you have pretty much unlimited access to all the main historical and tourist sights..worth the money. The night life wass´t rocking but there are two or three main plazzas where there are lots of terrazzas open till 1 or 2 in the morning and the drinks are cheap. (The rest of Italy didnt have any better night life) The people are friendly and its a nice place for shopping, lots of winding streets. Its not far from the main train station and there are lots of buses. Its well worth taking the time to go for a walk during the evening when the street lights are lit, in the older part of Verona...its very pretty and reminded us os Salamanca(spain). You have to go and see Juliets balcony, its the main attraction..or rather touching her lucky boob is!!!close

The opera was a particular highlight too. It is a very romantic place and is highly recommended for couples.close

If you want a relatively quiet place to spend a few nights, consider Verona. Time it so you can catch a performance of your choice at the Roman Arena. The old-town area is typical of northern Italy (in our experience), with plenty of churches to visit if you like. The old city itself is clean, with plenty of shopping and restaurants around the Roman Arena. Take a walk along the river in the evening, or visit the fortress and bridge. This was one of our favorite places in Italy, perfect for a little more laid-back few days, rather than hustling to see the sights!close

The highlight of our trip was the visit to Jullietes' house, but be aware this is a very popular tourist attraction and it will be very busy. The Roman Ampitheatre within Piazza Bra is a magnificent sight to look at but it is still used as a venue for concerts and plays, so do a little homework before you leave and book tickets in advance.close

The hotel is not located in Verona. To or from the hotel by taxi costs 15-18 euro. There is a bus that takes about 20 minutes to get to the city center.

3the location...its in the middle of nowhere. although there were buses the staff advised us to catch a bus that didnt exist. secondly there is no food within a 10 km radius - the hotel restaurant was already closed at 730. breakfast - a free buffet that we weren't told about until we checked out....

Really enjoyed this restaurant the food was great I love the way you can have your pasta as a first course and just a plain dish as your main course - none of this garlic bread stuff you get in Italians outside Italy. Try this place you won't be disappointed and it is very central
