Sorrento was one of my favourite spots that I stopped off on when backpacking around Italy. We stayed in a campsite about 2 km outside of the town and had a chalet on a cliff side that over looked the bay, you couldn't ask for better! There was a restaurant on the campsite that did take away, we used to get pizza, cheap wine and sit on our little balcony looking at the view, priceless. The town itself is really nice and worth a visit. The main reason we had stopped here though was to do a tour of Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. I'll add more about them in reviews as they are excellent. We also visited the Island of Capri, I thought it was only so so if you have a spare few hours then go but I would recommend Pompeii of Vesuvius over it. |

I didn't understand, why this hostel has so low rating at hostelworld. It was pretty nice and friendly place to stay. |

This city is cheaper and within walking distance. |

Sorrento and the Amalfi coast are absolutely stunning and definitely worth a visit. We went over the Easter weekend and saw a lot - Herculaneum, Pompeii, Vesuvius, Amalfi and Capri. |

Sorrento is a great place and close to other places on the Amalfi coast which is amazing |

The weather was gorgeous! And even with what seems to be thousands of tourists, the vibe is so relaxed and they enjoy la Dolce Vita like nowhere else! |

loved it. only three clubs in town, more of a kick back and relax city. |

Sorrento and Sant'Agnello are great little cities; however, most of the restaurants and many of the shops close down for winter, making finding food rather difficult. |

Beautiful place. Make time to go to Capri and Pompeii, well worth the visit. |

quaint little town, a good pit-stop for getting to other destinations like capri and amalfi. Very touristy tho, since roads are filled with shops selling souvenirs and local products. It was quite lively at night at the Piazza tasso. Quite a romantic atmosphere for a small town. |

We only spent 2 nights in Sorrento but it was a nice place if a bit expensive. It is handy to get to Vesuvius, Pompei, Ercolano, Amalfi and black sand beaches. |

Sorrento is very touristic. Nice place to stay during a summer holiday. We had a really nice time, because we just wanted to relax. |

Mt Vesuvius and Pompei are cool and relitively easy to get to. The town itself is good and Amalfi and Positano have reasonable beaches. |

The town is charming. It has amazing views of capri and naples. There is ample to do and see in Sorrento and the surrounding towns. Travelling is best done by boat, as to appricaite the beautiful rugged coatline that is the Amali coast. In the other direction towards Naples Pompeii is definately worth a visit, given the time you begin to sence that it was once a thriving city with over 20,000 citizens. |

We had a good time, so it all seemed great. |

The staff was amazing and the housing was great! It was a great little getaway! |

The sorrento coast is amazing, and as the sun shines everyday it makes it even more luxurious. We had a wonderful time here, and rented out scooters which is the best way to see things, but you might have to use up one of your nine lives driving around the roads there. Can't wait to go back. |

Sorrento is fantastic. Not only that, it is also central between Pompeii, Positano and Amalfi. Sorrento is small and beautiful, so you may only need a couple of days. But watch out you may regret leaving early. |

Sorrento was a higlight of our time in Italy. Many of the cities in the north have clear 'tourist fatigue' where they are tired of the swarms of tourists. Sorrento seemed happy to be a tourist town and welcoming and friendly. We didn't encounter any of the hidden charges that might appear on your bills in say Florence or Venice, and drinks were all very reasonable. Weather is a bit volatile in September but still got nice days with the occassional shower. Would certainly visit again. |

Cinque Terre up north is better but Amalfi has a more dramatic coastline. Beautiful for views and relaxing. Yet the bus company, train company and rubbish collectors were on strike - so was a little difficult at times! |

Sorrento is touristy, there is no hiding it. But the good news is, alot of the tourists are Italian tourists. There isn't anybody trying to sell you crappy souveneirs, or trying to rip you off. It's a nice lazy coastal town. Spectacular views, brilliant night life, and half an hour from Pompeii, Vesuvius, Herculanium. Hey, just being at the beach is enough. I was only staying for 2 nights. I ended up staying 5. |

We all had a sensational time in Sorrento - just out of town we could relax and swim and really get away. Transport was easy to get in and out! |

The place was good but the staff at this hotel really let it down. They were not very polite and really couldn't be bothered to help you. |

Beautiful place, in easy access to the Amalfi coast and archaeological sites of Pompei and Herculaneum. Also close to Vesuvius. Loads of restaurants. No where to dance, but a few nice bars. Beaches not so great as mostly rocks. |

 |
A real village atmosphere. Well worth a visit. Spectacular location. Tiny Italian back roads make getting there tricky. |

Lovely place, well worth a visit. There is a lot of tourists here in high season but it doesnt take away from it. Naples is dodgy so stay away is my advice. Capri and positano are unreal too. |

Sorrento was okay but I recommend skipping this city and staying in Salerno or Positano. These other towns that i mentioned are just, if not more, beautiful, cheaper, and the beachs are much better. Tourists dont flood every block and people are really friendly. |

Pity the weather was so naff but that cannot be helped , really impressed with the transport system and the friendliness of the people. |

Dont go there in the low season |

Pretty town but jaded from too much tourism. Do some research and you'll find there are much nicer places in Italy. |

Sorrento was great, we spent quite a bit of money, but it was worhth it. great little shops and very tasty resturants. |

Sorrento was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, I highly recommend it to anyone! |

We visited in February and a lot of shops and restaurants were shut. However those that were open were excellent. Don't be put off going at this time of year; the weather was mild and sunny, and the lack of foreign tourists provided a much more Italian experience. |

Sorrento itself is not worth more than one day but it is fantastic as a homebase when traveling through the Bay of Naples area. My friend and stayed in Sorrento and during the day took trips to Capri and Amalfi and spent one afternoon walking through Sorrento. There is great food here and if you have a guide book good inexpensive food is easy to find. We came in March but the weather was still nice. It is a beautiful place. |

Sorrento is such a beautiful place but please be warned it isnt cheap! There is good shopping near Piazza Tasso and lots of great fresh seafood. Just make sure to come prepared to spend some extra cash! |

Sorrento is a busy tourist resort on a peninsula about an hour south of Naples. The windy coast Road the leads out to Sorrento has some amazing scenery, and if you continue on past Sorrento you join up with the Amalfi drive which goes through Positano, Praiano and Amalfi before joining up with the main road again.
When we were there (March) Sorrento was very busy. Most of the tourists seemed to be Italian though, so it wasn’t like a typical tourist destination.
The town itself has lost of restaurants to choose from and is centred around the old port. There aren’t really any beaches though, so you’d have to happy with your hotel pool.
In terms of things to do in Sorrento, there isn’t a huge amount. You can drive the Amalfi coast, and take trips to the island of Capri, which is well worth a visit. It’s also only about an hour from Pompeii and Herculaneum. Apart from that, the weather’s great so it’s a nice place to unwind. |

I loved Italy and had the pleasure of staying in Sorrento for 6 days. We arrived in Sorrento by train from Naples (which took about 50mins so make sure you get a seat!!). Upon arrival we found that our hotel had a complimentary shuttle bus service, the pickup was about a 3 mins walk from the train station. We arrived in our hotel and then went to explore Sorrento. It is a busy little tourist town with lots of restaurants to choose from and the best ice cream shop I’ve ever been in, just off the Piazza Tasso. Wonderful restaurants, fantastic wine, great little streets to wander around, beautiful views of the sea and sunsets.
Sorrento is a wonderful place to relax in and perfect location for day trips to Pompeii, Capri, Positano and Amalfi. The local train and bus service were very good and cheap. We took a boat trip to Amalfi and then the bus back to Sorrento, best of both worlds!! We got to see the wonderful coast line and towns from the sea and then the breathtaking views and cliff drops from the bus on the way back. Not a journey for the faint hearted!!
I would definitely recommend Sorrento for a visit, it is not cheap but worth every penny!! |

Sorrento has it all, the hospitality of Italy combined with a relaxed atmosphere. It is located on the Amalfi coast which is home to some of the most scenic views in all of Italy.
Sorrento is very clean and has a small city that offers great seafood and all Italy's specialty cuisines.
I would definatly reccomend it to everyone who wants to make the trip to Southern Italy, its worth it.
Sorrento is an excellent alternative to staying in Napoli - it isn't plagued by the same poverty and graffiti. The town is beautiful and offers convenient ferries to Capri, one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Sorrento is linked to Naples by an inter-city train system that is farily convienient. Early spring is especially perfect here because of all the orange and lemon groves in various backyards and gardens.
Sorrento is full of shopping streets that wind themselves around the city. Never once did I feel out of place or afraid of anything. The locals were all very accomodating and so friendly!
Stayed at the "Sorrento Holiday House" ( www.sorrentoholiday.info), a gracious apartment on the Sorrento Hills that offers tranquillity and a wonderful sea view over the Gulf of Naples. |
