Victim of probably the most famous volcano eruption ever, Pompeii has to be seen to be believed. As you wander around the streets of the ancient city, it is hard to fathom that it was once completely buried. Highlights of Italy's number one tourist attraction include Teatro Grande and Anfiteatro.

Amazing trip back in time in ancient Pompeii, and a fascinating insight into life circa 60AD. Can be done as a day trip, or overnight trip, from Rome, and is certainly well worth it. You can spend hours wandering it's remarkably well preserved streets, villas and amphitheatres.

The entry to the site will cost you €11(this would pay for a lot of ice-cream) but it really would be a pity not to visit the city that was destroyed by a volcanic eruption 2000 years ago while visiting Naples. You will walk through the original shopping area where the shops seem to have been just closed for the weekend. You will visit the rich Patrician’s villas superbly decorated with the most elaborate mosaics and to finish up, you can walk on the tracks of the gladiators who fought there when Ireland was still Hibernia.close
