This restaurant is located at the end of the main shopping street Via Toledo it displays the “Vera Pizza” sign, this is granted to the pizzerias of Naples that take pride to cook their pizzas in a wood burning oven and according to the authentic Neapolitan recipe.
The place is not exactly fancy it looks nothing like the trendy Italian restaurants you can find in Dublin but it is simply warm and welcoming with the ceramic wood burning oven sitting just beside the door. We went there after a long day shopping to test the real pizza on the first day of our stay. We were sitting inside (while most customers were outside enjoying the sun) just beside the cuisine where you could see the chef and his team working away through a large window, this was a show of it own that we enjoyed during quite a long wait for the pizza. The pizzas were absolutely delightful, we could feel the freshness of the tomatoes and of the mozzarella cheese and also the specific flavor given by the wood-burning oven. We thought the place was so good that we went for pasta there the next day and as expected these were the tastier Bolognese ever, before that I opted for a starter fresh mozzarella and Parma ham, delicious, the Parma ham was sliced from the leg in front of me. A great place. |

'Da Michele' is regarded by many to have the best pizza in Naples, but this place is definitely my favourite. Open since 1935, there are lots of pizza to choose from, some as little as €3! Be prepared to wait for a table though. |
