About what you would expect for an inexpensive hotel near the railway station. Very basic, clean enough, very helpful staff. As long as your expectations are realistic (as mine were), you'll be fine.

I rated location as "average" because the hotel is located in an area that looks not very safe at night, but it is very close to the central station, and for this reason it is very good for train travellers. The owner, signor Viola, is very kind.

Near to the main train station, but is a dodgey area. A far walk from main attractions and the water. Staff were very nice and accomodating though. Rooms were clean, looked after.

Hotel Viola is a very nice small pension with very friendly and willing to help the traveler personnel. The rooms are very clean and note that there is always hot water. The location is very central, so you can actually walk to the major monuments of Napoli. We would definetely recommend Viola for...

Owner is nasty and has a short temper. I called and emailed that I would be a day late. They fought with me over payment for the missed night. Do not use this hotel. Better yet dont sty in Naples. Find a nice town right outside if you are to explore capri and pompeii

Cons: it is noisy, phones did not work, and niether did the AC. overall, if you are looking for a safe clean, place that is in walking distance to the city while you are in naples, this should suit you.close

It was clean, had plenty of hot water for the shower, staff was friendly, etc. Don't expect a mansion though...after all it is a one star hotel. If you are just looking for a decent, safe hotel to sleep in though, it's perfect. They keep the front door locked to keep out anyone who may not be safe which is nice and immediately answered the doorbell for us when we wanted to come in for the night. The staff was very friendly, however I recommend getting tourist advice & maps from one of the information site in Naples (like at the train station) and NOT from the hotel staff. The breakfast that was brought to our room was very nice. :-) close

As a hotel goes, it was simply par for the course, but I don't know that you'd find anything better in Naples, and the location is good. FYI -- If you're in Naples to visit Pompeii, the Circumvesuviana line runs out of station Garibaldi and will take you right there. Check out Herculaneum (or Ercolano in Italian). It's a much more interesting site than Pompeii and is actually closer to Naples. Of course, you can get a combo ticket for both and a few other sites. Also, most of the interesting things from Pompeii (and many from Herculaneum) have been placed in the Naples Museum, so don't miss it. It's fascinating.close

As 2 girls travelling we didn't feel very safe as there was not much door security and we feel we were not allocated the best room for our needs. Strange men were knocking on our door until late into the night. Our room was only one floor up and the area did not seem safe.

Very good location and a few minutes walk from the train station. Fairly clean, however shower in the hallway bathroom seemed to be falling apart. My pillow was also filled with cotton balls which was not very comfortable, but other than that it was nice.

Located in the very dodgy area around central station. It was clean enough but no atmosphere, and i probably wouldnà t recomend it. We stopped into Hostel of the Sun while in naples for directions, and they were really nice so i would recomend them.. they had better location as well.

It may be cheap but thats it. On our arrival our room still wasnt ready, this was at 6pm. The bathroom was a disgrace, I had a chair cushion with a pillow case wrapped round it as a pillow, our room wasnt cleaned, the area is very dodgy, and they were doing work on other rooms a 7:00am (lots of hammer noises). To top it off on the second day someone in the hotel went through all our stuff and stole money from my girlfriends bag. We told reception and they said it wasnt possible as I had the key and he was the only one with the master key. I CANNOT RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT STAY HERE ENOUGH.close

It was fairly easy to find, but you might want to point out to people who are not from Naples, that the Corso Novara is the street immediately to the right of the central train station..we lost our way a bit trying to get there. The hotel is clean, staff were kind of friendly, but nothing to write about. We were given a wrong room, but this was sorted out in the end. I thought the hotel was clean and facilities were ok. But I think the price should be reduced a bit as it was a bit more like staying in a hostel rather than a hotel. Marks out of 10: 6close

We thouroughly enjoyed staying in Hotel Viola! I loved being in the centre of the hustle and bustle of the market and not too far a walk from the port or shopping area. Naples is gorgeous!

However, the Hotel Viola should be retitled the Hotel Vile. It is disgusting. One of the worst pensions I have ever stayed. Cold, gray and depressing, it matches in charmlessness the gruffness of the people working there. I had cockroaches and bedbugs and never for a moment felt safe. Interested in a drug deal? Look outside on the street, no doubt you'll find what your looking for. My advice: take some extra time and stay away from Viola. Also, having made a two-day reservation - they would not let me cancel day two without paying for it - I am not sure if that is hostelworld policy, but you'd think with cockroaches and bedbugs they'd make an exception.close

i didn't get to stay at Hotel Viola. Because the Hostel didn't receive a fax from HostelWorld.com. And I was forced to walk around Napoli with my luggage at 12:30am. And they charged my credit card for $19.36 and will not send me a response to my concern!
