An impressive Cathedral in Florence, notable for the construction of its dome which was pioneered by Filippo Brunelleschi. The exterior is full of marble panels of different shades of green and pink bordered by white.

This is a really impressive cathedral. The art work is breath taking. Fab views can be had from the top- although It a steep climb & not or the faint hearted. We also found that there were loads of tour groups there while we were there which did get on your nerves a bit. Its also a shame that higher up in the cathedral students have graffitied the walls. Only other down fall is that as with all sites in Florence there is a fairly steep entrance fee & a grumpy cashier asking for the money.close

62For 6 Euro, you can visit the Dome seperate from the Church. I recommend you go early in the morning it opens at 8:30am. The lines get long and the day gets hot. It is not air conditioned in the dome and can get quite hot climbing all the stairs.

7The masterpiece of Brunelleschi, the cupola (dome) consists actually of two domes, one inside the other. He built it in that way to make the building more resistant and self-supporting. If you’re fit enough, climb to the top. It’s almost 500 steps, but it’s worth it. The view is fantastic
