The first night I went to bed alone in the room and woke up to find a stranger sleeping there - must have known the owner. He made all sorts of crazy sighing sounds in his sleep and kept me up most of the night. The next night, the owner burst into the room around 3:00, turned all the lights on and left the door wide open while he admitted some late arriving people. There were no apologies, no explanations. I really couldn't believe it, especially since the staff was quite nice during the day. But hey, it was cheap.close

I really liked this hostel. The rooms weren't very big at all but we spent most of our time on the roof with the staff who were unbelievably helpful with everything.

Thanks for a great time at Southern Cross. We enjoyed the friendly and lively atmosphere in Akbiyik street, breakfast on the rooftop-terrace and a perfect location for exploring beautiful istanbul.

number of times we were told that the tea is not free and they tried to make us pay, before showing them it says free on website and getting it free. very small rooms, but okay, but no common area, only rooftop bar upstairs that closes at different times throughout the day.

Although the electricity was out for half of our stay, which turned the place into a sauna, the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. I was surprised at how personal they treat their backpackers, and how much they trust them, which was, in our case, a very good thing.

Great staff (Metin) and location, and awesome rooftop bar, however bathrooms are dark, smelly and you come out worse off than when you went in. Oh, and the power was out for 48 hours straight, but they provided candles.

nice rooftop and nice staff but rooms are ridiculously tiny with nowhere to store luggage. Street is very noisy at night which would have been ok if you could shut the window-but it was broken, also air-con leaked onto peoples things. good location but better places to stay and we ended up moving...
