Westport is one of Irelands best preserved towns and winner of Tidy Town award in recent years. Its the perfect getaway destination, with lots of traditional pubs, a few nice cafes and really good value hotels. Stay a little bit out of town along the Harbour for a great view of Croagh Patrick and the sea. Service by train, a car is a must have to get around the surrounding area.

Out of summer season therefore companies running activities were closed. Poor 'supply' of tour companies/transport to get to beaches, Croagh Patrick and other areas of interest.

It's a beautiful small town with some good places to go to. Lots of tourist shops, and I really recommend eating at O'Malley's (the pub downstairs is allright too). It's not a cheap place to stay, but it's really lovely. And we rented bikes and rode for about an hour to Murrisk to climb Croagh Patrick. If you attempt that wear good shoes! And don't expect it to be easy. It's very very rocky and very very steep if you go to the top.

A small town that has become a victim of its own success and breath taking local environment and history. The signs of pressures are starting to show. The balance has yet to be found.

Westport ist not very big. YOu could travel through the city centre in 15 min. There are some nice shops and cafe's. Westport has an harbour and a nice park. The park is next to the hostel but you have to walk half an hour arround it since they plant a hotel on the pavement, From westport you can start many tours to other cities and points of interesst.

I was there in off season and was raining a fair bit, the town doesn't have to much there but there is alot around the area-Croagh Patrick etc. As with alot of Irish towns the pubs were excellent, particularly Matt Malones. Food in Ireland is pretty rubbish in general so food here no better or worse.
