Small but nice town. Limited attractions. Local boat ride worth a go. Everyone visits the recently renovated castle in the centre of the town. There is wads of hill walking, fishing, golf and the beaches are great. The local surfing is wonderful – world renowned actually.
Night life is not great if you are looking for up market entertainment. However the local pubs are good. The one Indian restaurant and the one Italian restaurant are excellent. Surprisingly these are referred to by the locals as the “Indian” and the “Italian”.
The hotels in the town are very nasty (The Abby and the Central). They used to be very fine small family run hotels but got taken over by a hotelier that is only after the money. He uses cheap untrained labour. They are not run very well and have deteriorated a lot over the years. Find somewhere else to stay unless you are desperate.
Only plan to spend a few days here or you will get very bored, very quickly. It rains a lot in Donegal. Be prepared.
such a beautiful place! a little tricky to get to by bus, but well worth the trip. Super friendly people - very hospitable. Great hikes and walks around the area - its\' very picturesque up there - the most beautiful place on my trip!
