I cannot believe I am the first person here to review Baltimore. This village is in a beautiful setting and is an ideal base for travelling around west Cork, even if it is slightly off the beaten track. It does have a ferry connection to the Irish speaking Clear Island, however, a nice day trip. The village is small but has excellent restaurants and bars, the ruins of an impressive Norman castle right in the village centre, a very good yachting harbour (it is twinned with St Tropez no less) and good accommodation, of which I can highly recommend Casey's - advertised elsewhere here. The Casey family were so nice and welcoming and their hotel is very comfortable, with nice rooms, good views and a really good restaurant! I think the breakfasts there were some of the best I've ever had in Ireland. Perhaps because of its St Tropez associations, prices I found to be a little on the high side but it didn't seem to be putting the hordes of tourists off. The village is also famous for a dark event in 1631 when the place was raided by Arab pirates and the population that was not killed was carried off into slavery - adds a poignant touch knowing that as you walk around....
