This village is in a beautiful setting and is an ideal base for travelling around west Cork, even if it is slightly off the beaten track. It does have a ferry connection to the Irish speaking Clear Island, however, a nice day trip. The village is small but has excellent restaurants and bars, the ruins of an impressive Norman castle right in the village centre, a very good yachting harbour (it is twinned with St Tropez no less) and good accommodation, of which I can highly recommend Casey's - advertised elsewhere here. The Casey family were so nice and welcoming and their hotel is very comfortable, with nice rooms, good views and a really good restaurant! I think the breakfasts there were some of the best I've ever had in Ireland. Perhaps because of its St Tropez associations, prices I found to be a little on the high side but it didn't seem to be putting the hordes of tourists off. The village is also famous for a dark event in 1631 when the place was raided by Arab pirates and the population that was not killed was carried off into slavery - adds a poignant touch knowing that as you walk around....close

    • What?

Restaurant attached on to the hostel.
    • Where?

Prime location in Baltimore, a short walk from the harbour.
    • Anything Else?

The restaurant serves a wide variety of food, from seafood to pasta, with something to suit every budget.

Really nice old fashioned farmhouse with budget accommodation and holiday homes. Its pretty basic but location is great. The restaurant is great - we had dinner here on one of the nights and it was great - couldnt fault anything. Staff were lovely and the wine was great too. Lovely country house setting.
