The pousada Mata Virgem welcomes you on Ilha Grande, the nature paradise at the East Coast of Brazil. Here you find the best opportunity to enjoy the hospitality, the varios forms of nature and culture and the sunny weather of Brazil without the usual problems of expensive tourist prices, the high crime rate, malaria or dengue fever. On this island there is neither traffic nor favelas; instead you find more than 150 km² of almost untouched nature, uncountable beautiful beaches and a variety of possibilities to spend your time such as boat trips to the most beautiful beaches, trecking, diving, surfing and many good and cheap restaurants. Our pousada is located calmly and idyllically at a little stream, only 5 minutes walking distance from the beach; in a friendly hospitable atmosphere and for a good price we offer everything you need for a relaxing stay on the island - clean rooms of two to four beds, all with fans and most with private bathrooms, a cosy lounge with TV and DVD-Player, the use of our fully equipped kitchen and a veranda with pool, surrounded by a tropical ambience. Of course the price already includes towels and bedsheets, the use of the internet and a good breakfast. We also offer laundry-service, a little bar with drinks and snacks and if you wish we organize your trip from/to Rio de Janeiro (including pick up from any adress you choose, e.g. the airport or your hostel/hotel) and help you planning your activities on the island. Have a nice Trip!

this hostel was ok. Felt a bit like you were in somebodies house. Breakfast was really good though!

The hostel was beautiful and clean. It~s not on the beach, but the road to get there is also an adventure. The island is safe and a paradise. The hostel fits right in there!

I urge anyone to avoid this hostel, the location is very poor out in the jungle surrounded by misquitos. You can find similar and even cheaper accomadation once there. We stayed at pousado Palmoa instead which was far more superior and cheaper.

Lovely little hostel, although the exterior is a bit shabby and the pool is very small and green-when you have the most beautiful beaches you really dont need a pool!! Staff were good, and the BBQ was definately a good one!! Rooms cool with fans, even gets too cold. Would definately go back.

Avoid this place if possible, location is not optimal, it is not clean, its pricey, and the rats will keep you awake at night

I loved to stay there! There´re good clean dorms, nice musics, the staff (Tatiane) is cool, the breakfast is so great and Mario makes wonderful carioca barbecue. I recomend this place for everybody.

pretty sketchy, but it will do the trick. it's just as expensive as good places except it is not good.

On arrival we decided to not to stay here, advertised facilities did not meet our expectation and did not compare to other hostels. In addition we were the only guests staying. This resulted in the owner and his friend chasing us down the street, swearing at us and threatening us. I suggest you...

It´s quite a bit from the village, the staff is friendly enough, but it´s not very clean and the rooms are not the best. We were kept awake of mice or rats running around in the roof and the walls all night long. Moved to another hostel as quick as we could, there are far better deals in town...
