La Casa del Tio is recommended by Lonely Planet, Let,s Go and other travel guides because it has a great location, cleanliness, security and good value. Those characteristics are the keys of success of this small hostel and bed & breakfast located inside the historic Guanajuato, a few steps of the Teatro Juarez, el Jardin and the best museums in town. Furthermore, for your own protection, this hostel is one of the few business legally operating, member of the Mexican Hostel Association. The hostel's cheaper accommodations are in the second floor and the Bed and Breakfast in the first. All the costumers have free access to the hostel wireless network, the kitchen, laundry and orientation services from the friendly staff and owners. They also offer tours and transportation services from the bus terminal or airport for an extra fee. If you arrive by car there is a protected paid parking nearby. Additionally, to make your stay more comfortable, this hostel also has a Sushi restaurant for lunch and dinner time. Once a week they have a special of two items for the price of one. However the best place it's the rooftop and the amazing view of the Historic Center and mountains. La Casa del Tio is in so great location than filmmakers have used the surroundings since the time of Brigitte Bardot (Viva Maria) to Antonio Banderas blockbuster Once Upon a Time in Mexico. In addition the hostel accommodations are in the only Art Deco building in Guanajuato. So... book right now La Casa del Tio and taste the real life of Guanajuato!

Great location, very basic but nice rooftop, definately not worth the $25 a night it costs to stay there for the Cervantino festival.

I loved this hostel! It offers a great location and a very accomodating staff. The free internet was also very nice. I would recommend this place to anybody wanting to visit the beautiful city of Guanajuato.

I am not trying to complain. I will just tell you what I thought. First, there is no breakfast even though it is allegedly included. Second, there is really not much of a kitchen. First, there is no breakfast even though it is allegedly included. Second, there is really not much of a kitchen. Sometimes there are dishes, sometimes not. There is no place to prepare the food at any rate. Finally, the bathrooms are not so great. If all you want is a bed and not much more its fine. But there is not much to this place. I have been in many hostels and I would not recommend this place. Look on.close

The 24 hr check in is an advantage, the single room out the back of the cafe is fine, but of course ear plugs are needed.

So for paying more u get all the noise! The staff were an everchanging group of young men and women who saw u as an inconvenience stopping them playing on the computers. The only interaction I had with any of them was when one asked me to give them a 10 when I did this rating! The first night I was told breakfast was from 8.30 to 10.30. Next morning I awoke to find everything in darkness. I was the only person in the building! I waited til 9.30 then desperate for a coffee I left knowing I couldn´t get back in as no front door key. I passed by at 10.15 and a girl was just opening. She told me don´t worry a man will sleep over tonight and do breakfast tomorrow!!. My final morning(thank god!) I was woken by ringing at the door at 7 a.m.-people looking for lodging. I had to go upstairs and find the man who should have been on reception!Do n ot stay here if u want a good experience! In case u think I am picky I am now staying at a Posada in Gudalajara also booked through Hostelworld. The owners are lovely. It is spotless and all u could want and cheaper than La Casa del Tio!!!close

Move the TV and couch downstairs so people will have somewhere to meet while others are sleeping. Get a table in the kitchen so people can sit to eat. The male nightclerk has NO business in the women´s dorms at night!!!!! Stop making people´s beds and clean up the nasty kitchen and bathrooms.

Funny smell in the room, very noisy in the mornings and the shower was a little dirty, but otherwise a great hostel. You must go to the cantina next door - it looks like nothing but the food is sensational!
