Old Goa rivals Lisbon with its old majestic cathedrals and western feel, the locals even seem to have the same sense of humour!

It was colonised by the Portugese and evidence of this is everywhere, from the houses to the cathedrals and their white washed exterior.

Goa is one the purest parts of India and also the smallest state with its white sandy beaches and its interesting culture. It was a Portuguese colony for about 450 years, the most obvious evidence of this is Old Goa, a city with a good few beautiful temples, it worth visiting. Most of the people speak Portuguese and very good English too, they are very friendly and helpful, of course they try to sell the tourists anything they can and they are a bit pushy. There is a huge market on Wednesdays in Anjuna Beach; here you'll find everything from Indian crafts and spices to the newest London Club wear. My favorite beach is Benaulim, south from the biggest city Panaji, very quiet and relaxing. If you would rather go to a nosier place seeking for nightlife then Calangute on the north is your choice. There is another wonderful beach on the south called Palolem surrounded by palm forests and mountains, here you will find the real white sand, however swimming is not recommended in most of the beaches of Goa because of the strong currents in the ocean. Both the accommodation and food are very cheap and most of the time they are good value for money. It is nice to chill out in one of the beach shacks sipping the most famous local spirit: the Caju Feni (spirit made of cashews) with Limca (fizzy drink with lemon flavor) while enjoying the sunset. The only negative thing is the poverty, however if you look at the people they seem to be happy as they are and they smile much more then the people in Europe, that is something we could learn from them!!

Although Goa is the most laid-back part of India, it can still be pretty full on, depending where you stay and what you want to do. I was less than impressed by the beaches, which I found dirty, but the history and architecture were very interesting.

Great people, food and weather. Would suggest getting away from Colva to the smaller guest houses dotted around. Much more peaceful and nothing is more than 10minutes from the beach.

Not so great for the "real" flavor of India, but if you're looking to just chill out and get lost for a couple weeks its absolutely perfect

Goa was a comfortable place for foreigners. Many locals spoke very good English. Many shops and places to eat. A somewhat noisey, party place. Beaches are great. Not the best value for your money.

Great place to chillout in the day on the beach... though the water is far from idyllic and good for partying in the evenings at the many clubs around. Not much in the way of sightseeing or water activities but a great place to top up your tan!

The country is great. We have been India lots of times & seen most of India. Goa is one of our Favourite cities. Lots to do shopping or sight seeing can get good designer wear at cheap prices. mostly immitation but good. Or can get a suit or leather jacket made at half the price! or if you just wanna chill you can at lots of diff beaches. White sands blue sea sun shining, nice cold drink what else can you ask for? The locals are really friendly and helpful. And as a whole its a cheap country to visit. had a fantastic time. Already planning our next trip.

Goa can be a charter tourists paradise, and/or a mindblowing experience. If you really want it, you can find it. South beach in Anjuna can be a nice place to start looking.

Highly recommended to all the Goa travelers. The place is excellent and the best part of the deal is the warm and hospitable host Vivek. The Rooms are comfortable, food is excellent and so is the overall ambience. I have just been to that place and have enjoyed every bit of my stay there.

I loved this place. The owners are very friendly and super helpful, the guesthouse is so relaxing and has everything you need, there is internet access, books, laundry service and water on sale, and the bathroom facilities are fine, and from Anjunapalms, there are buses and many restuarants and shops close by. Great location and lovely owners.

Must admit that Mandrem has to be the most beautiful and clean beach in Goa. I spent 2.5 days trying to see as many beaches in Goa as I could from South to the North and everything in-between. Mandrem was so clean, green and no beggers or sales people to bugg you. Stayed at this beautiful resort in Toor Resort. It was a treat being there. Free Wifrless Internet and open air night cinema in the evening. It was Fab.
