I remember seeing the Solidarity riots at the shipyards on tv in the early 80s and place looked grim. Boy was I gobsmacked when I got there. The old town is a delight - very well maintained with beautiful guild houses and town houses and a beautiful old town hall which now serves as the museum of the city of Gdansk. Just outside is the stunningly beautiful Long Market. There are some find buildings along the waterfront as well (and lots of amber shops) and the Gdansk crane - an amazing crane built in the 1400s. I was staying in nearby Sopot, so didn't manage to spend a night in Gdansk, which is a pity because I'd say it's a lovely city at night. Certainly worth a long weekend!close

Perfectly conservated XV century architecture, many things to do in the sourroundings (Sopot, Malbork, Westerplate) nice to go out and eat, museums, just for walking. Lovely place, It was much more of what I expected. Definitly a must go if you are close.close

Everything about our stay at Canterbury House was brilliant. Location-wise it's in such a great place for getting around. The owners are really something special, terrific help. If you're going to Gdansk and want your own little home whilst you're away, stay here - you won't be disappointed!!

Fantastic stay at Windsor House! Excellent location, close to the main central area and train station. Lovely, clean flat, which fitted the 5 of us comfortably. We found Jim to be very helpful and appreciated the maps and information booklets he gave us on the first night. We particularly...

1A wonderfully presented, clean, well located apartment. The landlord is happy to help with any queries etc (plus he's english so there's no language barrier or anything like that.) The city of Gdansk is amazing too. Well worth a visit, and I would definately return to the city (and apartment!!)...

1Very clean, very friendly staff, great breakfast until 10. I had to stay close to the "Gdansk Morena" area for business. For toursim the location is not so useful. The B&B is about 30 minutes on foot from Old Town. You can always take a bus or taxi, though.

Villa Sart 79%
The private bathrooms are NOT to be recommended for tall or big or even slightly disabled people, because they are extremely small. Suitable for average people. But should be mentioned.

1A very clean and comfortable guesthouse. Location also interesting to someone who wants to see more of the city than just the centre.

1I stayed there for a few days due to work in the area and was happy with the place. For tourism the location is not so good. You still have a tram (10' walk) and buses close that go to old town and center. The large dorm in the basement has some windows and the beds are comfortable. The breakfast...
