I have stayed in this hotel twice in the last year. The imposing building at the end of Eyre Square is incredibly impressive. Even upon entry, the foyer is nicely laid out and the potential is obvious. However after this things don't go as you would expect. Even upon entry, the foyer is nicely laid out and the potential is obvious. However after this things don't go as you would expect. I can't put my finger on what it is exactly. The staff are friendly (as best they can). The hotel is clean and the food acceptable. The rooms vary from the bizarre (yes bizarre! and strange) to the luxurious. But overall fine. I guess you just expect 5 star luxury based on first impressions, but instead get 3 star mediocrity.close

This used to be the Great Southern on Eyre Square and it's had quite a make-over. The lobby and reception are done in very muted dark colours, but it's quite tasteful. The floors by contrast are lighter and airier and the rooms are surprisingly big - mine was absolutely huge - separate toilet,... more This used to be the Great Southern on Eyre Square and it's had quite a make-over. The lobby and reception are done in very muted dark colours, but it's quite tasteful. The floors by contrast are lighter and airier and the rooms are surprisingly big - mine was absolutely huge - separate toilet, living room, huge bedroom and marble bathroom - more a suite than a bedroom! That said, one or two of the fittings needed maintenance but overall the place was impressive. Very nice breakfast too. I had the parlour lunch but I found the service a little bit slapdash, I'm afraid.close
