Ryokan Kashima Honkan was built in the 'Taisho' period' (1912-1925) based on the special architecture by the shrine carpenters from Kyoto. We call this type of architecture 'Sukiya-Zukuri' which represents the elements of a Japanese tea ceremony 'sado'. Our building was registered as ' Tangible Cultural Property' by Japanese government in May of 2007 because of the excellent and traditional Japanese architecture. This is the first time for Fukuoka city. We have our own enclosed Japanese traditional garden and here you can feel real and old Japanese atmosphere. Located in center of downtown Fukuoka City, you can get to the main attractions easily on foot. For instance, we are very near one of the biggest amusement centres in Kyushu Island 'Nakasu' as well as 'Canal City Hakata', which has various shops and many restaurants in the mall. There are also many old Buddhist temples and a very famous shinto shrine in this area. 'Shofukuji Temple' is the oldest Buddhist Zen temple in Japan, which has a nice and authentic Japanese garden. 'Kushida Shrine' is very famous for the summer festival 'Hakata Gion Yamakasa', which is held in the first half of July every year. This festival is very exciting. You can walk to 'Hakata Folk Museum' easily from us. You will experience old period of Hakata town here. Yukata (Japanese night clothes),towel ,bath towel, tooth brush set are prepared in a guest room and there are liquid body soap and rinse in shampoo in common bath and private shower room. You can use private shower rooms for 24 hours except cleaning time. There is coin laundry with clothes dryer in our building. There are two personal computers in our lobby for our guests. You can use Internet with thoes PC here free of charge. Free web access in our lobby is also available with your own personal computer by our wireless Ian router. Free drink service (coffee, tea and green tea ) in our lobby will be convenient to you. We have no curfew. So you can completely enjoy yourself at night in Fukuoka. You can order next morning breakfast after check in at the cost of 735 yen for western style and 1050 yen for Japanese style, Visa and /Master cards, traveller's check in Japanese currency and cash are accepted for payment.

Really large room for a single. Found it fairly easily, it's even marked on the map coming out of the subway. Didn't use the private shower/bath but the public one was very clean. Complimentary tea was nice. Really creaky floors though ;)

One person room I had was very clean and a traditional Japanese experience! Though shower is downstairs I had adequate privacy. Staff speaks good English and the free internet was nice. If you have a laptop bring a two-prong adapter as there is no outlet with a third outlet receptacle. Directions: Exit from Gion Station at Riesen-Machi Exit (it think it was #2). Walk to the 7-11, take a left at the small road/alley at the end. Follow street to the little intersection (there will be a cigarette machine on your left here). Take another left here and you'll be right in front of it (off to your left). Enjoy!close

Great tradional Japanese hotel with a futon on the floor and only and small table. People were wonderful, room was huge, and you get to take a traditional japanese bath. Not for the shy.
