It has an exceptionally mild climate which makes it an ideal out of season destination. Here are 10 suggestions of things you can do in and around Faro: 1. Faro Marina - a typical Portuguese marina with restaurants and cafes. 2. Faro Old Town - wander around the narrow streets and look out for the storks that nest on the rooftops. 3.Faro Beach - be careful if swimming here though, the water gets deep very quickly and is not ideal for children. 4. Forum Algarve (Jumbo) - a large covered shopping complex with plaza. 5. Olhao - typical Portuguese fishing town, no beaches, you won´t find many Brits there 6. Palace of Estói - 19th century palace on the outskirts of Faro with pretty gardens. 7. Rio Formosa Nature Reserve (Parque Nacional do Ria Formosa) - ideal for nature lovers, especially birdwatchers. Boat trips available. 8. Loule Market - (on Saturdays) is within easy range of Faro by bus or car. 9. Quarteira - the beaches here are among the best in the Algarve. Lots of tourist shops for gifts. 10. Tor - typical Algarve countryside to the north of Faro close

3Very nice, very much like a hotel, rather than a hostel. Perfect location, friendly staff and a plentiful breakfast. Not ideal for meeting people but perfect for a couple on a weekend away.

Frangaria 83%
We arrived late into Faro airport so decided to stay here one night before heading further west the next day. Perfect location for our plans. The room and breakfast were massive. The restaurant was good too and open quite late.

2The hostel was near to the city centre and was well-maintained with hot water and all. Faro itself wasn't that interesting to me, but the cheap hostel made it a nice stop-over.
