York is an amazing city! I was lucky enough to hit it on a Saturday (market day), which is always fun. The city inside the old roman walls is small enough to see in a weekend, but it is so packed with old architecture, fun shops, pubs, bakeries, and so much more! It's cathedral is spectacular, the city walls and medieval cobblestone streets, and roman history, make York a good history museum. There are tons of cafes, restaurants, pubs, and shops for modern fun, though many of the shops are the same chains you see anywhere else in England. Also, beware that many of the sights and museums charge relatively high entrance fees, so if you want to see everything, it won't be cheap.close

If not for the horrible heatwave, I think I would have rather liked York. Because of such hot weather it's hard to enjoy anything. But there was a lot to do and it was really easy to walk around the entire city, unlike many other older cities which are labyrinths.
