Newcastle was rated top party city in Europe by Rough Guide 2006 I think and it has a pretty vibrant nightlife from my experience. Great Chinatown with excellent food, They have just about every professional sport there including a hockey team but watching a match at St. James park is definitely high on my list of things to do here.close

Popolo is a great club up the road from the Newcastle upon Tyne bridge and they have a really good cocktail list. A short trip out of town took us to see Hadrians Wall- the edge of the Roman empire. There are numerous places along the wall to visit although if you go to Housesteads it becomes easy walking around the ruins to imagine the layout of the fort as it once was with barracks, kitchens and latrines. Round off your day at Heartbreak Soup, an amazing restaurant where you can dine on 3 delicious courses and wine for 25 pounds. Cant ask for better really.close

I never saw such marvellous bridges crossing the old victorian houeses. It seems that the double deckers go over the roofs. I think I took at least forty pictures only with bridges. The town is the beloved party town of the Northern English youth. At the weekend I thought is was carnaval or something like this. Quite funny. The young people drink too much although especially alcohol is very expensive. I wonder how they are able to spend so much money on drinking. The more as all that stuff comes out of them on Sunday. But maybe it's expensive for mainland Europeans and not for the British. A trip to the North Sea is highly recommended. It's easy to go there by tube and you can sit next to the driver including a very interesting view. The cost with the cottages Tynemouth and Whitley Bay is beautiful. The people there seem to be more polite then those in Newcastle are. That's the experivence I made.close

I admired the beautiful old and modern architecture (the shopping arcades, the Baltic Flour Mill, the Sage, the Shipley Art Gallery, the Seven Stories Childrens' BookCentre ...) And I had two pleasant nights at the Albatross and a fine Argentine Tango at the Cooperage. What should I have wanted more???close

Yes the staff were really friendly and helpful, and even with my strange requests, such as the best possible way to run to the ocean from the middle of town...

  2. Euro Hostel Newcastle Halls 81%

Excellent staff, location, room, kitchen etc...only problem is Directions to the hostel need to be updated as The Nightclub does not exist and there were no signs for Tower Street. Although if you ask for directions from someone they will help you

Exceptional staff and breakfast and the hostel is very clean and comfortable. But not the easiest for meeting other travelers as even though the hostel was full the common areas were very quite as the hostel seemed to attracted an older crowd. The staff were great and we enjoyed our stay :)

OK place to stay, a bit expensive for how far it is from the city centre, and not really that fun. However, the staff were amazingly polite and made up for the hostel's failings a little.

Nice place...just a short metro trip from Newcastle centre. Good restaurant downstairs and breakfast was quite good too. Rooms were spacious enough and given the price would definitely stay there again if i go back to Newcastle.

Stayed in private double room. Paint had flaked off the walls and was on the floor! The was 1 curtain to small to cover the wall! Everywhere in the hostel there was a horrible musky/damp smell! You really should invest in some shake and Vak and airfreshner! Overall the church has lots of...

Top Rated Newcastle upon Tyne Bars

  1. Pitcher and Piano Bar80%

    • What?

        A bar.
    • Where?

        Beside the Millenium Bridge.
    • Anything Else?

This bar serves cocktails, British and continental lagers, and a large selection of wines by the glass. Food is also available.

Right at the base of the millenium bridge in Newcastle on the quay side (I think) great atmosphere and view.
