But there are a few large shopping centres where you can while away the time, or if you like, you can always hit the local pubs and get wasted early in the evening. On the whole, the city\'s not very well lit, with a few really dark alleys which one would be wiser to avoid late at night.close

Oh, I know they've been doing wonders with the city center and new avant-garde architecture and so on, but the place still looks like it has teeth missing. It reminds me of Dublin in the 1970s - full of brownfield sites being used as temporary car-parks until better times come along. Maybe they have, but the place still needs something to give it a sense of cohesion. And I have to say the filthiest McDonald's I have ever been to was in Birmingham (I ended up there cos I arrived at 11pm and couldn't find a restaurant to accept me, so McDonalds it was). Don't get me wrong, there are some nice central areas and the shopping district isn't bad; I just expected a lot more from the place. Very good ethnic food mind you!close

The city itself wasn't that impressive. The only major draw was the shopping. They say it's the new shopping capital of Europe and I believe. I've never seen a shopping mall like the Bullring. Although the decore could use some improvement and despite the lack of an on-suite, the hotel was great value for money, the rooms were clean, the staff were really good, lots of shops around the corner and good bus service to city centre. had a great time and would highly recomend this hotel.

This is my first visit to the UK and so I do not know if my experience was ususual or if it is the norm, but I am sorry to say that I did not feel 'cared-for'. I have had better service from similar places in Genova, Pisa, Rome, Bremen, Venice and Vienna. For a three star hotel, the room was...
