excellent culturally but hard to get around as it is walking only within old city, expect to climb & descend pleny of steps while getting around. very expensive eating out with little fast food available. great place to chill out during summer with hot conditions but cool in winter.

The city was very beautiful with plenty of time for relaxation just looking at the water while sitting on the edges of the castle. There were also ferry rides and museums to visit and I would highly recommend a walk around the city walls and a hike up the top of the mountain around sunset to get the full view of Dubrovnik at night.

Such a pretty place, the walled city is just amazing and very clean. I would recommend doing the walk around the wall. As far as pubs go I didn't think much, we ended up in an Irish pub, which I normally try avoid, but in fairness it had good atmosphere and music. Unless you like Fish and fryed food it can be hard to get something to eat. You will generally find something but quality won't be great, seafood is good though. The beach is a stone beach so little diving shoes are great for getting to the water, you can pick them up cheaply there.

Dubrovnic is nice and civillized. I would like to visit it again. I am very pleased by the fact that we avoided the high season. In April/May (and I guess Sep/Oct) it is less crowdy, not too hot and less exspencive.

I love the sea and I love old castles and medieval towns so I was in my element. Absolutely stunning town, nice people and great weather even though it's the middle of winter. A place I would definitely recommend.

Knowing that Dubrovnik is more a summer place than a winter place it is difficult to say for sure on any of these things. Apart from the old town though there isn't a lot in dubrovnik itself, and the old town can be covered in a day, so unless you plan on going to the islands dont spend too much time here. The place is easy enough to cover on foot provided you dont mind stairs. And I dont think Croatia is as cheap as it used to be. Overall though definitely a place worth checking out.

Go there now. Don't wait until the secret is totally out. You can spend as little or as much money here as you want. However, please don't arrive in daddy's yacht and make loud plummy mouthed prats of yourself - your'e not actually impressing people!

If you can look beyond the hoards of tourists flowing off the hideous big cruise liners, Dubrovnik is a great look at a preserved city of old. The wall walk is worth the money for the views of the Adriatic as well as the town, and the narrow windy streets make you forget you are in the modern world. Team this with a selection of beaches and swimming places, and the amazing colour of the water Dubrovnik has something for everyone!!

Dubrovnik's great if you like a well preserved medieval type of towns. There are many day trips out of Dubrovnik to be done if you are bored with the city. It's a great place to visit even though it's a bit pricey.

Dubrovnik is a very nice city, especially for couples : it's very beautiful and romantic. Many things to do and see (islands, old town, ...) The only thing is that croatians are not always friendly with tourists...

Croatia is still cheap. Dubrovnik Old Town is great with plenty to do and see for a few days if you like to take your time and really see what it has. Must do the wall walk and Rector's Palace. There are several other good museums. If you enjoy classical music there are concerts in the evenings in Rector's Place. Buy your tickets in advance.

Dubrovnik has a beautiful old town and it has a great coastline. I was glad to be there in April. Apparently the place is extremely full in the tourist season with day-trippers from the cruise ships and holidaymakers. The prices in restaurants, supermarkets, cafés and bars were higher than expected.

Dubrovnik is a beautiful city, quite simply. Its old city is historic and well preserved, and it's amazing how much it actually functions as a living city and not just as a museum. That said, the waves of tourists pouring off busses into the old city can be overwhelming at times, clogging the Stradun and the city walls. If you go, try to make some time to get out of the old city, or at least away from the main tourist areas.

it's not really on the backpacker trail, but its so worth getting yourself down there! I just loved being out of the city and enjoying the beauty of the countryside and sea. A bit more of a holiday than backpacking.

I had heard such great things of Dubrovnik and as such was eagerly anticipating my visit. When I caught sight of it from the bus which was whizzing around cliff edges I knew I was in for a treat, it looks amazing! The old town is spectacular, marble everywhere, lots of little cafes/pubs and a good vibe. The real catch point is that it's completely surrounded by water, crystal clear water! If you have a clear sky day you are in for a real treat. Having come from a city in Montenego called Kotor which is 50km south of Dubrovnik (and which I totally LOVE) it had a lot to live up to, and I think it did. It's really touristy and as such it is quite expensive, which was a surprise for me as it's Croatia right? Anywhere on the Adriatic coast is beautiful and Dubrovnik is no exeption.

Amazing. Far too walk but work it if you have the energy, so much to do from shopping to restuarants to history of the place, end of august weather was perfect hot but no unbarablely so. We unfortunaletly missed most of the summer festival which was a shame but there's always next year.

We went in a period when there were loads of really annoying american cruise tourists in the town. Three ships docked on one of the days. This spoils the old city a little because you literally cant move at some times. You can get around this by going around at midday. Other people have been here and not had the same experience so dont be discouraged. The city is stuningly beautiful, especially the walls, the views from which are amazing! Swimming sat sunset in the sea near the port at sunset was unforgetable. So so relaxing!

It is true that Dubrovnik is the Jewel of the Adriatic- definitely a must see but only for a day. Croatia has so many great places to visit make it a starting or finishing point.

This has to be one of the best places I have ever visited. Culture, people, Old Town is incredible and the history with the war in 91/92...please go if you can, but not too many of you as I would hate this place to change. You know when you have some thing incredible and you want to tell everyone but you want it all to yourself at the same time - Dubrivnik is it...

An amazing coastal destination, possibly one of the best in the world. The old city is amazing, and although the beaches are rocky and the water quite cold, it's possible to get some quality beach time as early as March, whilst London is still shivering in it's boots. Everyday living is reasonably cheap, and it's feasable to eat out each night, although don't expect any variety on the menus. Each restaurant offers the exact same variety of food (mostly seafood, some pasta, and there are a lot of pizzerias) but it's good and it's cheap. We stayed at Villa Miceka which was right near a plethora of restaurants, 150m to the beach, and was practically next door to a big grocery store. The trip to the old town was an easy bus ride - I'd recommend this hostel.

We loved Dubrovnik. We spent 3 days relaxing and enjoying the incredible views. We even got 20 degree weather in March! Food is reasonable if you head just off the main road in the old town (toward the ocean, the other side is more expensive!). If you go to Croatia, don*t miss Dubrovnik.

Dobrovnik is an incredibly beautiful city and worth a day trip. However it was almost too touristy for me. There were Americans EVERYWHERE and one could see that it was set up for the comfort of these tourist. I found Split to be much more attractive because it did not seem to be set up completly for tourists but there was still plenty to do.
