Located on the Adriatic coast in the south of Croatia, Dubrovnik is a hugely popular destination among tourists visiting this region. The city centre has been designated a Wold Heritage Site by UNESCO and Stradun, the main pedestrian street, is flanked by houses dating from the 17th century. Some of the main attractions include the Pile Gate standing at the entrance to Old Town, the Orlando Column a popular meeting place among locals and the Romanesque-Gothic, Franciscan Monastery. One of the most picturesque things about Dubrovnik is the wall that runs around the city, with its many towers and turrets. Each year the Dubrovnik Summer Festival is held over the course of a month. Artists are given the key to the city and various plays, concerts and much more take place. The city boasts a large selection of things to do once the sun goes down too. Visitors can enjoy the many restaurants and cafés, as well as the bars, pubs and clubs. So whether you’re looking for culture or a wild night out, Dubrovnik has something for everyone.

As far as pubs go I didn't think much, we ended up in an Irish pub, which I normally try avoid, but in fairness it had good atmosphere and music. Unless you like Fish and fryed food it can be hard to get something to eat. You will generally find something but quality won't be great, seafood is good though. The beach is a stone beach so little diving shoes are great for getting to the water, you can pick them up cheaply there.close

The old city is amazing, and although the beaches are rocky and the water quite cold, it's possible to get some quality beach time as early as March, whilst London is still shivering in it's boots. Everyday living is reasonably cheap, and it's feasable to eat out each night, although don't expect any variety on the menus. Each restaurant offers the exact same variety of food (mostly seafood, some pasta, and there are a lot of pizzerias) but it's good and it's cheap. We stayed at Villa Miceka which was right near a plethora of restaurants, 150m to the beach, and was practically next door to a big grocery store. The trip to the old town was an easy bus ride - I'd recommend this hostel.close

When I caught sight of it from the bus which was whizzing around cliff edges I knew I was in for a treat, it looks amazing! The old town is spectacular, marble everywhere, lots of little cafes/pubs and a good vibe. The real catch point is that it's completely surrounded by water, crystal clear water! If you have a clear sky day you are in for a real treat. Having come from a city in Montenego called Kotor which is 50km south of Dubrovnik (and which I totally LOVE) it had a lot to live up to, and I think it did. It's really touristy and as such it is quite expensive, which was a surprise for me as it's Croatia right? Anywhere on the Adriatic coast is beautiful and Dubrovnik is no exeption.close

Apart from the old town though there isn't a lot in dubrovnik itself, and the old town can be covered in a day, so unless you plan on going to the islands dont spend too much time here. The place is easy enough to cover on foot provided you dont mind stairs. And I dont think Croatia is as cheap as it used to be. Overall though definitely a place worth checking out.close

I thought this was a great location : short walk to the main bus terminal, old town, grocery store and ferry to the islands. Marijana was very welcoming and helpful and her daughters were adorable. Strangely though, I was allergic to something in the house and kept sneezing for the whole time...

Guesthouse Soko is in a quiet residential street so we slept soundly (no traffic noise). The air con was a bonus in the hot summer as well. Owners are friendly and helpful. Close to several restaurants and bars, easy walk from the harbour & bus station. Happy to recommend to others.
