Chang Mai is fantastic!!!! We came for 4 days and there are still many things we did not have time to do. Bring your water pistols and your buckets!!!!!! and get ready to have fun!!!! |

Chiang Mai was a great location to visit. Especially after spending time in Bangkok. The bustle of the city is much slower, people are not trying to grossly rip you off (tuk-tuk are great in Chiang Mai, get anywhere you want for 50 Bath no hassle) The food in Chiang Mai is great. Fun cooking Classes! Try Alotofthai.com |

if you dont mind constant rain and floods then Chaing Mai is good fun for a few days...you need to make it an active holiday, ie on your first day decide where you wanna go and book it...we did a one day trek which was plenty for us cos we are very unfit..but elephant trekking and bamboo rafting highly recommended...also the one day cookery class at the Gap School is excellent, the chefs dont take themselves too seriously and it is a laugh. Difficult to find some decent nightlife (unless you want to hang out with prostitutes) but the night bazaar will keep you entertained in the evening if you like shopping..they have it all! buy a raincoat and go for it! |

Fantastic. We spent 21 days in Thailand and wished we had spent all of it in Chiang Mai. We went to Phuket, Phi Phi and Bangkok after Chiang Mai. The other places were nice but nothing like the time we spent up north. Chiang Mai gave us a glimpse of Thialand we never found anywhere else. |
|
|
 |
A great base for activities in the north: go elephant riding, white water rafting, canyoning, etc. from here. In the city you will find lots of temples, and on the hill just outside the city there stands the most famous of them all. Also a great place for food and Thai massage, as well as shopping. Don't forget to bargain! |
|
|
 |
Chang Mai has a bit of everything and Tuck Tucks can get you there for cheap. With Thialand value you can do mostly anything here. |
|
|
 |
Everthing Bangkok isn't... except Thai that is. Friendlier, cleaner, less scams to rip you off, nicer, cooler weather.... there you have it! |
|

The city is geared for tourists and lots of people speak english but they were all trying to get you to buy something or go to a mates place to buy something, so be wary. I went on a tour and loved it. Much nicer out of the dity. |

From Elephants to Temples |

If you want a bit of adventure then Chiang Mai is the place to go. With so many things to do like quad biking, white water rafting, mountain biking, rock climbing and treking I would recommend as a place to go. |

The 31st of december was not to be missed on the rooftop patio at the Green Tulip. Stella, the hostess, graciously brought her guests a glass of whisky to the room to ring in the new year. Cheers!.... and the streets were spotless the next morning. |

Simply great for shopping, eating, sightseeing and learning how to cook. Great value for money. Strangely though, the weather in December is hotter than expected. |

This is my business trip, so I don't have time for shopping, sightseeing. But I love eating for northern food very much. |

Chang Mai is famous for jungle trekking, but being our age group we didn't think we would really do anything like that, but once we got there we decided to do a one day trek and elephant riding and white water rafting, it was great fun, not too hard going, a great day, also there was only the 2 of us booked that day but the trip still went,. Also a great place and cheapest do a cooking course, we used Pad Thai school, they were great fun and we learned a lot, just don't have breakfast before you go as you get to eat the food you eat, we didn't eat again until the following day. Great night market in Chang Mai on a Sunday night.
You can party in Chang Mai but not around the old fort area. Food is cheap here, all in all great value for money in this area. |

It can get quite chilly at night in the winter! |

I love everything in this trip in general, except for our long tiring trip to Chiang Rai. Golden triangle is nothing special but merely a far view of 3 different countries from a boat ride in Mae Kong river. We put so much hope on seeing the poppy plant but the man that we hired told us that there is no more poppy plant to see in Thailand. I am not sure if what he told is true, as my some other friends still saw the plantation last year. He gave me the impression that he wished to rush back to Chiang Mai ASAP after we have paid him 5500 B for that day. I really disappointed with that, what's the point of travelling so far just to see the 'Golden Triangle' which is basically nothing to see? The man is actually the taxi driver that picked us up from the airport with green car plate. We hired him based on his impressive car condition and his ability to speak fluent english. Please advise if it is true, if so, where should I go if I want to see the poppy plant? |

Beautiful, relaxing getaway from the rush of Bangkok. Would highly recommend the city! |

A bit far from the night market, but otherwise the best place I have ever stayed in. Staff was great, took us out for both lunch and drinks. Tours were good. I'm coming back! |

Chiang Mai is captivating; plenty to see and do and getting lost is easy too! Really enjoyed time in the city, have extended stay by 1 day and hope to return on way back from Laos. |

A great city on a budget |

Really enjoyed Chiang Mai. It's still a city but much more laid back and chilled. Great value for money, can live very cheaply here. |

I have been to Chiang Mai on many occasions over ten years. It now seems to be really overrun with tourists and has lost the 'provincial small town' atmosphere it once had. |

I just had a chance spending my weekend in Chiang Mai.I really love it. |

I love Chiang Mai. |

Coming back for sure. Two nights wasn't enough for me and my buds. I guess we need a bit more planning too, since we would wake up at noon or so and miss out on the morning activities ... |

Don't miss out the night market! |

Although the hostel is not near the city center, it is still easily accessible by taxi or tuk-tuk. What I like the most about its location is it's residential feel. It's in a quiet neighborhood yet close to the bars and restaurants. It's a nice retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city center. |

chiangmai city center in my opinion is "house of the wats/temples" since so many. and many beautiful restored. with different architect style compared with wats in bangkok, for example. this derived from lanna style.
main temples are wat chiang man, what chedi luang and wat phra singh. and to go hilltop, can be found doi suthep. but ever since many things has restored --and pretty glittering-- i feel this place quite touristy, mixed with pilgrimages. |

This city is sooo nice. It's inexpensive, easy to access, a lot to see and do. I cannot wait to get back. |

 |
A great place but with huge environmental lproblems due to smoke and smog. |
|

Chiang Mai has was very hot during our stay. Most of the tourist and locals sleep all day due to the heat. You get up late afternoon eat, shop, drink, talk and go back to bed to do it all over again the next day. The majority of the locals (vendors/taxi/tours ect) really tend to try their hardest at ripping off the tourist whenever they can. Make sure you get prices on what you should be paying for EVERY THING before you go out or you may end up paying much much much more than you should. |

Chiang Mai is one of the nicest cities in Thailand and is referred too by many as the Rose of the North.
There is so much to see and do and in Chiang Mai, you can spend hours getting lost in the Old city looking at all the different styles of temples and then at night there is lots of great restuarants and bars and of shopping at the various night markets.
Your missing out if your in Thailand and dont visit Chiang Mai |

Great Vacation spot. There\'s something to do for everyone. From massage, mani/padicure, night marketings to trekking in jungle, night stay in a hill tribe and white water rafting.
I enjoy my stay tremendously. Will be back there some time. |

 |
great place to stay. pool and sonny will organise all your treks etc for you. would stay again. |
|
|
 |
wonderful atmosphere, though not a lot of typical sight seeing. there are 300+ temples to see, though not a lot else! the best thing is to go on a trek. they take you hiking through the jungle, on elephant rides, and even whitewater rafting. there is a lot in chiang mai for the outdoor enthusiast. also the city is very walkable and has good eats for cheap. |

Never have I been to hostel where I felt as welcome as I did here. Staff treats everyone like a long time friend. Any future trips to Thailand will include a stopover in Chiang Mai and with Spicy Thai. |
