Remember, breakfast of tea, coffee, juice, cereal and croissant is included in the price!!!Chalet les Frenes is situated in Les Bossons, 4 kms from Chamonix town, equidistant between Les Houches and Brevent ski areas. A free bus offers hassle free transport to and from town. Unfortunately, the local council have cut the night bus service so last bus back is about 19.30. We do have 4 mountain bikes which you can use free of charge. The view from the chalet is incredible - the Mont-Blanc massif, glaciers and the highest cable car in Europe, the Aiguille du Midi. The owners live in Chalet Les Frênes along with their golden retriever Gomez. Summer season is when Chalet les Frênes blossoms. You will not even want to venture into town - if you are not too busy relaxing in the garden in the shade of the cherry trees or strolling in the meadows at the foot of the glaciers, you will be eating refreshing salads on the balcony. There are walking trails right on the doorstep and a cyclepath leading to Les Houches in one direction and Chamonix in the other. Ski room entrance is on the ground floor. Ski room leads to 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms through a door and corridor. The bedrooms are roomy twins, 2 of which are south facing. The Ski room has stairs leading up to the first floor where there are 2 bedrooms, the owners' private kitchen, the breakfast area, a bathroom and a toilet. There is no common room although you are welcome to use the terrace and garden . One double room is good sized and south facing with double doors out onto the balcony. The other room is a good sized twin.

What a great place to stay. Phil the owner is a top guy and made us feel really welcome. Great views of Mont Blanc from our room. You will need your own transport if you plan to go into Chamonix after 7pm. Great place. Will definitely go back.

We booked for 4 nights but after 1 we left due to the infestation of earwigs in our room. The owner was genually upset and appologised. We found other accomodation in chamonix and it has definately put me off booking a hostel online again.

The hostel has a very attractive location right under Mont Blanc and its glaciers. It is more peaceful here than in Chamonix town centre. Evening public transport might be a problem for some people - no trains or buses after 19.39 . A plus is that Phil gives his guests a free travel pass for the...

Warm bed, hot showers, and place to let our snowboards dry off. The location was pretty good -- but we had a car, the trip to the mountain would have been a lot longer without a car.

A bit more out of the way than we expected, but the scenery was stupendous - views of the Alps right in the backyard.

The owner seemed to hate his job, and having guests. The breakfast/sitting room was off limits, his private space, except for breakfast. The only option is to just sit in your room.

We had an amazing stay in this chalet. Phil the owner is very helpful with any info about skiing and boarding. The only downside was it was a bus ride away from the slopes we were using, however the buses were free so it was not really a problem. Would definatly stay there again.

Chamonix & the whole surrounding area is spectacular and the views from the Chalet were the same. Phil met us at the train station at Les Bossons & drove us to the Chalet which was very nice of him & just as well for us as the directions to get there were vague & we never would have found it on our own. The breakfast was nice, the bed comfortable, the bathroom was good, the view was spectacular and Gomez is very friendly- but...the Chalet is Phil & Fiona's home. The website does state that there is no commonroom and the kitchen is private. The loungeroom is also private except for breakfast. You only really have the bedroom and use of the balcony & garden, but we felt restricted to the bedroom in order to maintain the owners space & privacy. This made our stay less than what we hoped for. The chalet is quite out of the way and there are limited eating places nearby. With limited transport at night and no kitchen facilities a decent meal is not an option. If we were to stay in the area again a place in Chamonix would be the better option.close

Phil and Fiona are really nice and being British obvioulsy speak English. The only drawbacks may be: the security is a little questionable since sometimes the rooms are left open and they are often not there so I wouldn´t leave any valuables in the room. It is also a very dark walk back at night so you will want a flashlight. If you can handle those things... it´s perfect.close

Really friendly owners, made you feel home from home - not forgetting Gomez the dog! Location did not get 5/5 due to poor public transport links into Chamonix for night life - but it was 'dead season' so not sure if a limited service laid on. Overall fantastic and would recommend highly.
