Don't stay in the girafferoom next to the TV-room. The door slams allways and keep you awake !!!

great hostel - i was only there overnight on a layover, but the showers were hot, and the beds were clean. everyone was very friendly. a little cold in winter, so an extra blanket might help

I will say though, it was immaculately clean & had a great location. Not a great place for solo traveler's though.close

Couldn't fault it in any way. We loved the atmosphere, staff and location, and thought and hot water bottles for each resident was a lovely touch. Fabulous!

This was my first hostel experience and I enjoyed it very much. We stayed there about two weeks off and on. Used it as a home base and traveled around.

This is one of the best hostels I've stayed in. The rooms are great and very clean. The staff are really helpful and knowledgable and having the travel centre there makes it so easy to organise tours, car hire, etc. Plus there's a great bar/restaurant with various things on during the week....

My stay in Cape Town wouldn't have been as incredible as it was without The Backpackers. Stay here, and you are truly at home!!! Also, hip boutiques, eateries, a day spa, and a movie theater in walking distance. Perfection!!!

Great place to stay, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Clean, comfortable and quite spacious, this is the place I would stay at again if coming back to Cape Town. There´s a reason it is rated so high, don´t miss out on it!

When you stay at the Backpack you become part of the family, very friendly staff that helped me with all of my needs - car rentals - even last minute, shark diving, B&B booking, security advice etc. Thanks especially to Prudence! Only thing missing was some cleaning in my room...

This place was everything I wanted, and more. The staff were fantastic, as is the Africa Travel Centre - which can sort out anything you need. I only had 4 nights there, but could happily spend 4 months. A fantastic hostel, in a fantastic city, and both shall be visited again!

Awesome Atmosphere and very clean. The only let down was that the room we stayed in (the whale) was EXTREMELY hot. also being, right by the pool we were kept awake most nights by people coming to swim during the early hours of the morning.

The centre is a bit of a maze. Some well placed maps of the layout showing where the various rooms and dorms are would be incredibly useful. Its quite easy to get lost / wander around in circles for a bit (especially when you first arrive).

The directions on the website could be a little clearer - in particular the map. A link to Google Maps with the exact location would be ideal.

Be aware that if you book a longer tour you have to pay a fee each person to the hostel. We didnt know until we saw it on the reseept. And the communication to the tourcompany wasnt good. They didnt know what we payed extra to have a doubleroom and some other details.

They also have a nice pool, great view of Table Mountain and the bar/restaurant has great food and selection of drinks. The only issue was that they kept moving members of my group from one room to another which seemed unnecessary and one evening I came back to find I had been moved to another room without being informed and my things had been packed up and locked away in reception, which was closed! Apart from that, highly recommended!close

This hostel was excellent, except for the last night when we saw some large cockroaches that had crawled into the room under the skirting boards! If they can get rid of these it would have been perfect.
