Its an awesome hostel!! I highly recommend it. Its in a safe area, and only 10 min away from the hot spots. It felt like I was in my own home! Great people, fantastic place!

Very helpful owner, certainly knows his stuff. Rooms are a little run-down, even for a hostel. I haven't stayed at other hostels in Cape Town but for little price difference, some of them looked in much better shape. But hey, it's only pictures so go see yourself!

Afrique du Sud is in a safe area, a (good length) breath-taking walk along the coast from the Waterfront complex and it's easy to catch transport into town if you want it. The owner, Dave is THE most helpful and knowledgeable person and can book lots of stuff for you. (He also has the nicest voice we'd ever heard.) Don't believe the hype about the other places on Long Street and stay here.close

The staff here are wonderful & above many of the other backpackers in Capetown. They are always willing to help you organise your time & will go out of their way to ensure your stay is what you want it to be. The free braai is delicious & everyone we met was lovely.

I wasn't looking for all singing and dancing fun with a bunch of 18 year olds so it suited me nicely. Easy to get to and helpful staff. Thanks

But I was upset with Afrique Du Sud because they wanted to charge me for the entire two days I reserved, after I cancelled. I rechecked the cancellation policy, and they only charged me for the first night. I was not impressed with this place, and will not reccommend it to anyone.close

Dave is an awesome host. He is considerate of his guests and an all-round friendly guy with a wealth of information of the area. A genuine place to go and stay for a week or two, kick back and relax/chill with a braii and watch the world pass you by on the street. Lekker Dave - you scored...

Although the hostel was quiet due to the time of year, Dave could not have been more friendly or helpful. The hostel was ideally situated, close to the beach and also cheap taxi routes into town, clean and cheerful. I'll definately be back next year!!!
