very busy place, you cannot watch tv in peace because its next to the reception, no quiet comfy corners, not enough showers and why was the door to the room always open? because it smells damp?

We only had two nights in Cape Town, but Cindy and the rest helped us make the most of it by telling us where to go on Long St (Dubliner was cool), taking us to Camp's Bay for a day at the beach, and recommending a great cafe right up the street in Obz that had the best live jazz I heard in SA.

The hostel is in the "observatory" area of Cape Town so to get to the city you must catch a mini bus in and out...which means you MUST leave the city before dark to get back to the hostel for safety reasons. Observatory is a nice area, very funky and eclectic. The staff were nice enough... more

Fell in love with this place. Booked for 2 days, stayed 2 weeks. The owners are two beautiful, young local girls who actually know everything that is going on in town and whats worth doing in the city (opposed to the 50+ aged owners I found elsewhere who have no idea, recommending places they... more

Description of 33 South Boutique Backpackers

FREE BREAKFAST!!! Plus: young vibrant staff, adventure-packed days, exciting nights, chilled-to-the-max braais and the comfiest beds also included. Centrally located in the legendary OBZ, the funky and vibey neighbourhood with some of Cape Town's most adored live band venues, comedy clubs, restaurants, pubs and bars. 'Forget everything you once thought or believed about backpacking and join us on a new and unique journey in Cape Town' 33 South Boutique Backpackers was developed especially for those individuals who have a taste for a real adventure but are not willing to give up their piping hot showers and fresh percale linen. Because Cape Town is such a great place, we decided to develop a Boutique Backpackers Lodge that is really special. Boutique? Boutique for us is everything stylish, unique and luxurious - and all this you'll find in the homely atmosphere at 33 South Boutique Backpackers. Since we dedicated our name (33 South) to the geographic location of Cape Town (33 South, 18 East), it's fitting that each of our rooms is themed after a different culturally rich "Capetonian" neighbourhood. Whether you choose to spend the night in an extra-sized bed in District 6, the colourful Bo-kaap, Khayalitsha Shack chic or the cool and breezy Kalk bay room (amongst others) Cindy, Kim and the rest of the friendly staff will make sure you feel at home in this spacious Victorian house. At the reception you'll not only find a selection of tours, activities and great music, but also insider-info on the best restaurants, surf spots, music festivals and loads of "off-the-beaten-track" adventures. Comfort, safety and security are top priority. To ensure this, each guest has their very own large locking cupboard with digital code safe, extra-sized bed with the softest fresh linen and the night-watchman Elvis will keep you safe and entertained. See you soon!
