Lovely hostel, great location. The only bad thing was it was ridiculously loud at the weekends so dont expect to sleep!

Good hostel in central location. The bar was pretty quiet, but nice breakfast and friendly staff....made the stay in BA quite easy!

Can be ridiculosly noisy, the computers are lousy and while some staff members are really pleasant others are the complete opposite. On the plus side, it can be a sociable place (if only noise could be regulated better), breakfasts are good and the showers are consistently good.

I highly recommend Portal Del Sur. It's got a decent location and it's very secure. Pablo was a TON of help to us...calling for tour information for us, giving us directions, etc. And he's a great guitar player too!

The strengths of this hostel are; the common area, where fellow travellers can congregate to share tales of the road (whilst trying out what Argentina has to offer in beer and wine). And the laid back vibe of the staff, from the reception desk, to the cleaners, the staff at Portal del Sur always seem to be in a good, friendly mood. I'd recommend Portal del Sur to any fellow backpacker wanting to stay in the centre of Buenos Aires.close

We can't say enough good things about this place. Great location, rooms superb, clean, good activities, breakfast good and above all staff are super friendly and go beyond the call of duty.

Very nice building in a good location in central BA. Not nearly enough ammenities (showers, sinks, kitchen space, computers) for the large number of people who stay there, but generally clean and safe.

This is a nice clean place with character, but not in any way a party place. The bar was always empty when I was there, I guess everyone had gone to more fun hostels...of which there are many in BA

The hostel has good rooms with bathroom and very bad rooms with no bathroom. Half of the staff are nice and the other half are very rude. So.... it´s a question of luck!

Portal del Sur is a great hostel. Its staff is friendly and helpful, the building itself is unique and it offers a variety of activities, such as tango lessons and cookouts. It also has an in-house travel agency that was able to get us tickets to a Boca Juniors match. We look forward to...

I spent a week at this hostel and I really enjoyed it. Its very sociable but not a party hostel. The staff were very helpful and the guy at the travel desk is full of recommendations for further trips.

Hostel is very noisy at night because of the rooftop bar, especially on weekends. So much fun, but don't sleep here on the weekend if you actually want to sleep. Great for meeting new people. Amazing staff. Would highly recommend if you want to hit up b.a. and party hard!

Great little hostel, good location, good staff, clean rooms.. Rooftop bar was good some nights, quiet others. If you're looking to party with others head to Milhouse Hostel bar just up the road

One of the best hostels I have ever stayed in anywhere in the world, super cool friendly staff, great building with great character, great location, only 4 beds in dorm, good breakfast with real coffee, great view from bar terrace, they even make your bed every day! A real treat.

They had WiFI, but didn't work on my computer. The hostel was nice and the rooms were ok. They only had 2 computers and they were busy all the time. I went to a different hostel a little more near the big streets on Corrientes Av. which had a better location.

Rooms don´t necessarily have windows, so it becomes stuffy and easy to sleep past noon! Otherwise, attention to detail, great style, and activities organized by staff (ie, tango lessons, parrilla, football outings)

I had an excellent time staying at Portal del Sur. The organized activities were excellent and a great way to break the ice. The only thing that drove me crazy was breakfast. It was the same exact thing everyday without any variation. But other than that, excellent.

Very clean hostel with great common area! We loved the roof top bar! Don´t plan on sleeping in though. The breakfast-eating area is centrally located with all rooms bordering. It can be a bit loud at times, though manageable. Who would want to sleep in anyway, when there is so much to see...
