Though they were able to allow me to stay on the first night, they were unable to sort out for my second night swiftly. As a result, I have to forfeit my deposit for the second night and found somewhere else on my own. The overlook by the Gellert house has ruined my holiday and I am not confident and not willinging to use your online booking in my trip.close

antique furniture!! not a hostel to go to if you want to meet people and have a drink. however if you want to chill, relax and have a look around southern budapest then this is perfect. definately the cleanest and comfiest hostel i have stayed in.

Quirky villa setting in quiet residential area. Useful communal self-catering kitchen/dining area. 10 min regular service public bus ride to central areas. Good shower but hard bed with thin pillows.

This place was an incredible bargain. 10 Euros per person for a double, and you have your own bathroom, mini fridge, television. A little out of the city center, but in a nice, quiet neighborhood. The staff doesn't speak English so well, but we had a wonderful time there!

However, there is a FABULOUS pub on the corner down the hill - Aranyhid. They have the best food I ate on my whole trip, and very very reasonable prices!close

We sometimes had to wait around for someone who could help us to communicate with her. Also she seemed a little unsure about the payment arrangements negotiated through Hostelworld. This comment is intended more for you than for the manager herself - please make sure that she is clear about how the system works. Overall staying at the Gellert Guest House was an enjoyable experience. It is good value and I would certainly book there again.close

It has a beautiful landscape and the room and kitchen are nice and comfortable.Very close to the place is the Gellert hill with Cittadella. It is a very interesting place to visit, highly recommended. Budapest is wonderful!!!close

Very bad experience.close

While not horrible, it is one of only two not-great experiences we've had booking through HostelWorld.com. The staff didn't have any change when we went to pay, and acted put upon that they needed to give us either a receipt to get it upon checkout, or pay then. Finally, a friend of theirs coughed it up after much wailing (at each other, not at the customer, but still). The room was supposed to be a private ensuite, but was simply a private with 4 beds piled in there. It IS on Gellert hill, relatively close to the bathhouses, but with a very convoluted way to get there. Oh, and the hostel sign does not say "Gellert Guesthouse", though it is relatively obvious it's a hostel, and the address is right. Next time we go to Budapest, we're staying somewhere else.close

Nice place, room had tv, fridge, ensuite bathroom & staff were helpful. Only drawback was the location which involved walking up a hill along a dual carridgeway to get from town or taking a bus

Gellert Guesthouse could have been great if they used bleach in their bathroom to clean out the mold and a little on the towels to help them appear less grimy. Location for the money can't be beat. I'd got back (with my own towel).

You do need to take a bus to get most places -- if you choose to walk it's along a busy road a clip and not to pleasant. But it's not too far to every place you might want to visit via bus. Friendly staff but poor service. Breakfast was late both days -- the staff seemed overwhelmed. When I asked just to get my coffee (no complaints -- just asked for coffee because I needed to leave) I was told "It's not my fault, I'm just working here." And I never did get my coffee, after waiting around 45 minutes that morning. I recommend NOT getting breakfast unless you are not in a hurry and don't mind waiting around. Also had a hard time paying -- the person I was supposed to pay never seemed to be around. ( I ended up paying one of the kitchen staff -- she didn't want to take it and I worried my payment might go missing, but it that seemed okay in the end.)close
