Reviews of Hotel de France

Hotel de France has a rating of 62% from a total of 163 reviews and ratings, below are some reviews of Hotel de France

My first impression was that the staff was very unhelpful, most don't care and I sometimes had to wait for almost 15 minutes at the reception desk just to see someone. The rooms were cold - I had to change rooms - central heating turned off in the November weather.

the hotel is in a old palace in a work-in-progress shipyard lived almost only by arabs and other foreign citizens, so the location is very bad. Rooms are not so bad and quite large.

Clean room, powerful showers, and friendly helpful staff that speak English. Strangely illfitted bathroom (shelves that hang over the sink, blocking their use) and overwhelming perfume that tries to hide decades of cigarette smoke baked into the walls. Still, recommended.

It was located near the bus station, so if you are getting in late at night and have to walk, it isn't far. Otherwise I would not recommend the hostel becuase it is in a slightly sketchy neighborhood and far from the city centre. It was adequate but nothing special.

Great budget hotel but in a very sketchy part of town. Wouldn't recommend that girls go walking there alone at night. Overall though, a nice place.

The hotel is good but it is too noisy as it is along the road. I recommend to put sound proof on the window.

Location was quite dodgy, which meant we didn´t want to be out at night. There is building works going on right next door to the hotel, and a carnival round the corner, so it was a choice between deafness or overheating at night. The room smelt like bad aftershave, and our room wasn´t ready...

The hotel was clean, and the staff is responsive. Unfortunately, it was located on a not-so-secure place. There were many police sirenes and ambulance's during day and night.

It's a budget class hotel rather than a hostel, so one should not expect to have fun there and mingle with other travelers. In general, the hotel was OK and the staff helpful.

The room was unusable. If I open the window it was unbearably noisy as by main road and if closed unbearably hot more than 30 degrees, and no aircon or even fan.The boy at reception eventually found a working fan for me so I could eventually get some sleep.

If u r a girl just don't make eye contact or talk to men in the streets around the hotel. Just ignore them and you'll be fine. The Hotel De France was far from the city, in a neighborhood that was kind of sketchy. As we walked from the Metro station to the Hotel we passed three sketchy guys lighting up a joint and asked if we wanted to buy any cocaine. I would never go back again and not recommend it to any one that I like.

Lift was broken. Booked a twin room and received a double, but otherwise it was nice. Close to major train station and walking distance to old town. They need to provide directions on the web site. We found it by pure luck. Not many street signs in the area that we could see.

Some say location is a bit unsafe, untrue, excellent budget hotel, location to gare du midi could not be better, about 10-15min walk to centre but unless you're old, it shouldn't be a problem

This place was ok. Paper thin walls and staff that moves really slowly. Apparently it's in a "bad" neighborhood in Brussels, but we didn't have any problems. Also, it's close to one of the train stations but far (20 minute walk) from everything else.

It's great if you have an early train to catch, as you are across the street from the Gare du Midi Zuid station, location from the centre isn't too far off, but you're in a hotel.. so not very much connection with the other guests
