Janolan caves were amazing regardless of the weather and I'm sure it was just bad luck. Definitely worth visiting. If you want to see kangaroos, head to Euroka - seven bucks to get into the park and the 'roos will let you walk right up to them. Loved the 1930s-era YHA.close

I am a New Englander, and the crisp beautiful winter weather there reminded me of my favorite kind of days in late fall in N.E. The hiking was excellent, with many options which allow you to customize a route to your ability level and time frame. There are two competing tourbus companies which will take you from one site to the next, but if you are in moderately good shape and feel like walking, you can see most of them by foot. If you get tired, you can always hop on one of the busses along the way. Katoomba is a quaint mountain town that realizes the profit potential this creates. It's a nice place to do some window shopping (especially the antique stores), but it's a bit pricey.close

St Elmo Heritage 79%
Really knowledgeable and friendly staff. Only criticism would be that there should probably be more staff on at breakfast.

1Very centrally located - right on the main street of katoomba only 5-10min walk from the station. Rooms are clean and comfortable but very outdated and decor could do with an uplift. Breakfast very generous and big selection. Staff very friendly and helpful

3I was there with a party of 6 and we all had a great time. It is a cosy little hostel with plenty of character. The owner was very nice and helpful. I recommend it.

Jenolan Caves100%
What?
CavesAnything Else?
This is regarded as one of Australia's most outstanding cave systems and is one of the world's oldest caves too.
Jenolan Caves are about an hour and a half from Katoomba and are well worth the drive. There are heaps of caves to choose from, each boasting their own unique formations. I was blown away by them and can't wait to go back.
